Does anyone else have Ello?
« on: Sat, 24 January 2015, 06:36:21 »
I requested an invite ages ago, and I've just been invited.
Does anyone else have it? It does seem good, but there just isn't much content so far.
Also I have invites, does anyone want one?

I had totally forgotten that it existed. I guess I might not have been alone: http://techcrunch.com/2015/01/22/remember-ello-no-i-dont-either/

The product sounded meh at best and probably suffers from the Google+ syndrome. Largely the same functionality, but no one there.

So far, that seems very accurate.

I feel like Facebook has just become so ubiquitous, ingrained, and able to appeal to our egos, even with all the nonsense.  For me, it functions as an online address book.  Only the most discerning users will ever find reason to search for an alternative, and most people are not discerning users.
Wish I had some gif or quote for this space, but I got nothing

I dumped Facebook a while back and ultimately realized that my life was in no way enriched by knowing the oddly (and one might add meticulously) curated details of a circle of friends that I cared little to nothing for. Social platforms where you're the star only serve to, as you mentioned, appeal to our ego. I find it disgusting, personally.

That said, I retained twitter mostly as a place to get news information and relevant facts/information about the world around me. Even it is distracting and of minimum practical use at the end of the day.

Yea, I got Twitter for the same reason, to keep up with certain things that interest me, but I find that I barely use it.  The older I get, the more I value personal face-to-face communication.
