@bowji : I tried making the Kimchi jjigae today. it was really tasty. a bit too tasty so I would need to add more water the next time I cook.
I used 고추장, it was really really spicy and tasty really nice, only thing lacking was tofu :( will have to find next time !

If any non-Korean thread-visitor has any Korea-related questions, feel free to ask!
E.g. what ramen do you recommend, songs, foods, etc.

No, nongshim is near the "bottom tier" for instant ramen.

Although, I prefer Nongshim spicy ramyun, Ottogi Jin ramyum is a great alternative. The spicy one... forget the mild one, thats shetty. Another option is the yookgejang ramyun from Nongshim, probably my favorite.
Goodluck with your search for the "best ramyun"  :p

No need to look further.
This is the only ramyun worth eating:

Add a slice of cheese on top and its better than some 1-star Michelin restaurants I've eaten at.

Most people (including me) would recommend Shin ramen as it's relatively easy to get, packs decent heat, and is overall a good introduction to Korean ramen

Some people (again, including me) would go further and recommend Shin Black, which is a bit more expensive and a bit harder to get, but provides a more fulfilling broth with more depth

Like Sygaldry recommends, putting cheese on top gives it a much more milky flavor (some people even throw in a splash of whole milk)

I personally prefer mozzarella (when I do add cheese) over American because I like the stretch (and I dislike American cheese)

You can also go ahead and throw in freshly chopped scallion for some greens

Edit: They also have it in instant-bowls, but I prefer cooking it in a pot

Boiling in the Pot produces the most consistent noodle texture..

However, steeping in hot water brings back "The Memories"..

When I lived on the streets, and was too poor.. all the kids had was the stolen hot water boiler, which then ran off jacked electricity under the lamp-post..

Thats rough dude.. Fortunately, majority of the convenience stores in Korea have microwaves and hot water boilers for that reason.

yup, braised angler fish in some spicy sauce. delicious! served with noodles or rice.
I actually cooked it at home, never had it at a restaurant. but there are quite a few korean restaurants, and grocery stores, in BC. :p

been trying to cook a lot of different foods just because of the wide variety of ingredients in Canada compared to Sweden (culinary wasteland, outside of Stockholm and Malmö, really).
not sure I have a favourite yet, and really want to try jajangmyeon at a restaurant, but might give it an attempt at home too some time.

I'll be heading back in ~1 month, looking forward to it a lot!

haha yes I plan to! I like most korean foods that I've tried, don't have to be spicy. I really like beef bulgogi, but also pork bulgogi (dwaeji?) which is kind of spicy.
kimchi was a love at first sight (taste) too - but I think that is because in Sweden we eat a lot of weird fermented foods too. :p

dakgangjeong is one of my favourite dishes though, especially with the spicy gochujang sauce... mmmm-hmm. it kinda differs a bit from restaurant to restaurant though, and I've made some of the best one I've had at home too.

I am so hungry now :(

I don't know if I am good at korean cooking... what I make at home is comparable to what I have had at restaurants though :p
but I do think I am good at cooking in general, so maybe! even if it might be a little western in cooking techniques. not sure. I don't even own a wok for example!!

I don't think I will ever get at tp4's level to be honest...

haha yes I plan to!

How.. how are you so good at Korean cooking...

Only thing I can make so far is like... Kimchi jjigae, tonkatsu, and ddeokbokki lol.

Sounds like youre a lot better at cooking Korean food than a lot of Koreans I know...
All the ones you listed are what I like too, call me jelly  :p
I gotta go find me some soondae with dukbokki tomorrow lol

Thanks :D yeah well I try to pick things up that I enjoy eating as well.
But nothing beats food that other people cook for you.

om nom nom. my korean friend got me some soondae and dukbokki at a little food court place in NYC koreatown (which is just a block I think?).
they were both really delicious!
I can't enjoy soondae... not for me. NYC must have some really good Korean food.

So much 라면 talk in here... 신라면 can be modified to be so many different things, and it's so easy~ Just throw **** in there :P

Did this awhile back, but I just threw in some left over Boston butt and Kimchi... it was perfect.

Also! 라면 needs to be cooked in a 냄비!!!

It's missing a verb, but then again the English phrase is missing a specific verb :P

And I do want to...

I really want to go to South Korea.... I like the music :$ well I go through phases of liking it anyway...

But yeah, it seems super cool and I wouldn't mind tying it in with a trip to Japan as well.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

You should definitely take a trip just for the culture and food, yo. You won't regret it!

 +1 and eye-candy.
Single or not, you have to check out the chicks here... Hot spot places like Gangnam(강남), Apgu(압구) and Itaewon(이태원) is filled with chicks like the ones you see in Kpop groups, but better.

(Guess that was my "Tip of the Day", I should really get back to doing that)

Can't really speak on SK, but Japan was a really cool trip. I kinda just ate half the time :p, but I did see a ton of interesting stuff, new and historic; I'd definitely recommend it

Could anyone point me in the direction of finding a SK proxy for a Rantopad order?
You would also have to do some basic KR/EN translation.  You will be paid for your time and efforts.

Thank you

Probably not the thread starter, since their username sounds like a crude word referring to the female genitals so I guess it's a he...

52 million koreans, 7.4 billion world 0.6%

half female

1300 online members per day..   ~ 4 super-h0t korean Females..

wait , hangon.. hrrrmm.. the H0t population is probably not 100% .. probably 50% of females from korea is hot though, given their proliferation of engineering..  So.......

2..   there should be ~2-3  super hot korean females on Geekhack everyday..

I demand that they post fotos..

I suggest you dish out some KakaoTalk emoticons as bait. and EXO CD's. Korean girls like that sorta thing. I think.

Quick question for you korean ramyeon lovers:
Shin Ramyun, Samyang or Ottogi Jin Ramen?

Hmmmmmm I usually just get shin ramyun since I'm most familiar with it. Since elementary school I liked having Jin Ramen uncooked, like chips. Paldo Bibimmyeon and Jjapaghetti are longtime favorites too, but in the sans-soup variety.

Woo I finally figured out how to do a multi-quote!
