small *vertical* cloth pads?
« on: Thu, 26 September 2013, 16:39:28 »
Long story short, I'm looking for a small cloth mousepad that is smooth when oriented vertically (like in "portrait" mode). I'm using a SteelSeries QcK mini like this right now, but it isn't smooth at all.

I have a 70×28cm tray and use high-sensitivity mouses (1600–3500+ dpi @ 3520×1200 desktop). Unfortunately, I haven't found any mousepad that would fit the tray. The huge ones (e.g. Razer Goliathus Extended) are way too wide, while the "ordinary" big pads like the SS QcK+ overlap in the other direction. I want to avoid cutting. BTW the thicker and cheaper, the better.

Any tips, please?

Try Artisan Hien or Artisan Hayate.  Normally it's faster horizontally and slower vertically.  Since you're rotating it 90 degrees so it will be faster vertically and slower horizontally.

Artisan Shiden is the same feel in any direction and I've used it vertically before too.

BUT I just read that you want it to be cheap LOL ok maybe Artisan won't work.

Maybe buy a small Razer Goliathus?  They have small size and it's the same feel in any direction.  Or look into Corsair MM200 small size, though I'm not exactly sure if that one has a directional feel to it.

Thanks.

I'd looked up the Artisan pads before I made the post, but... I'm still not willing to import one, because—let's be honest here—I don't need a mouse at all, as I already have a rollermouse, few wacom tablets and five different trackballs (and another one on the way).

It seems number of available mousepads of various sizes has greatly improved even in local shops since two years ago when I got the SS QcK. However, Razer Goliathus Omega Speed is probably discontinued around here.

necro time

I've switched to plastic surfaces since the OP. Roccat Sota and SteelSeries 4HD let the mouse glide consistently in either direction. Neither is cloth, obviously, but the rubber base makes them still okay to touch.

I wonder if anyone has one of the rubberized pads like CM Storm something-RX to try the difference in glide.

Tearing edges, it's as simple as that.
