I put more rice on my face than I do in my belly. Too many carbs, great for the skin though!

Man, I do be eating that hummus though. Some might say too much hummus? Not me though.

I'm curious what brand of rice people shop for?
I find that Asian and Indian grocery stores have much better quality rice than American supermarket chains.

No, it is for sure better quality rice from better fields and manufacturing. Japanese rice is known for having differences based on the regions it is grown in, and basmati had this report done. Apparently some producers were caught lying about their process and quality.

DO NOT eat japanese rice.

Plants pick up radiation through their roots, and bring it up with the water.  Japan is highly contaminated with Fukushima radioactivity. ONGOING. Fukushima/Eastern Japan is 100 years out before we have the technology to fix it.

There is also evidence of ground water contamination, even outside of Fukushima which is absolutely contaminated.

Does rice from other countries have any particular issues in your opinion?

Does rice from other countries have any particular issues in your opinion?

All rice from anywhere can be high in Arsenic. Mostly dependent on the locale/soil, But this is unavoidable if you're going to main meal rice, it's random, and you can't tell without equipment.

Stick to California rice if you are in the States.  And Thai rice if you're nearer to Asia.

In Tp4's opinion California rice is gud'er than Thai rice.

#1 reason no back breaking slave labor, all our rice is grown and harvested by well fed, XXL wearing american farmers, the pipeline uses automated loading equipment, which is cleaner than a sweaty guy working minimum wage or (no wage) with a shovel packing rice.

California grows equivalent varieties of all rice.

Don't buy ultra cheap rice, these might get mixed with left overs/ old batches.

Get something within $0.75-1.50 a pound. Asian stores have sales which can go lower near end of season.

Buy from places rice shoppers frequent, such as mentioned by Noisyturtle, Asian/Indian groceries.

Rice quality. NT posted a good PDF on metrics, most of those are used to sort and PRICE rice, but they don't really affect the person eating rice.

Quality that actually affect the eating of rice are far fewer.

%moisture content:  They're all dried to approximately the same %tage, you're just looking for rice that hasn't sat on the shelf for too long/ dried out/ cracks

Scent: Rice has a mild scent, you might care about this or have a preference if you eat white rice without greasing/ seasoning it. If you season and butter up the rice, or make fried rice, you basically can't even detect the rice's innate floral smell, so it wouldn't matter.

Amylose %: Most rice on the shelf is 10-15%, some hit 20%+.  Amylose makes rice stiffer and less gummy.  This is the primary determinant to the final texture of the rice. Sticky rice (sweet rice) is 0% amylose, nearly 100% amylopectin.

This is a preference, but generally, beyond 10%, the rice will taste noticeably stiffer, chalkier.

Tp4 has found that if you mix half 0% amylose rice with half 10% amylose rice to achieve 5% amylose,  this is a good balance.

Higher amylose rice isn't an issue if you eat it all in 1 meal, 2nd meal, it's chalky. Getting it down to 5% makes it more palatable if you're going to eat multiple rice meals a day, but only cook Once.

Also, AVOID brown rice.

Modern rice gets a heavy spraying of pesticides.  There's absolutely no good reason you'd want to eat the bran of the rice.

The bran also has more arsenic.

There's a billion other ways to "fibre" up your diet, /BokChoy.

Is there not benefits to eating enriched rice?

It won't kill you, but think about it this way.

Does mother nature provide 1 off concentrations of micro-nutrients?

No, everything you get in nature comes in a package, this PACKAGE evolved over millennia in a very specific balance. Some nutrients come with bacteria that produces the enzyme so the animal can digest it. There is a pipeline that is beyond current level of human science. (That might change with future AI).

The Package is healthy and wholesome through Cosmic Design. Life begets Life. The default setting from nature is OPTIMAL HEALTH. The Death God is peak Quality Assurance.

Humans are creative, but we are mislead by "Marketing" into believing micro-nutrients can be quantized, concentrated, and injected to produce health.  This is not true.

EAT REAL FOOD, the less processing, the better.

The supplement industry is also UN-Regulated , unlike Medicine (FDA).

There is no certainty of what you're getting with supplements/ supplemented rice.

The Singular supplement that every human should take is B12.

B12 is produced by soil bacteria. We're essentially washing our vegetables in disinfectant (chlorinated water) + Cooking. We've killed off most soil bacteria.

Soils are also Cobalt depleted. Further lowering the B12 content of all foods.

B12 is produced by lower gut bacteria (in humans), but not absorb-able in high quantities.  Scientists posit that, humans with dirty underwear and who'd invariably scratch their butts, might have, in the past, transferred the necessary quantity of B12 bacteria onto their hands, then rest of the body, and through handling food.

Disclaimer,  there is also some science to suggest we don't need B12 supplementation either, and that measured deficiencies had other causes.

I recently bought 5lbs of brown rice by mistake actually. The lighting in the store was weird, and the plastic bag was green, so it just looked like regular rice until I got home.
Too lazy to return it  :(

It's only a small bump in arsenic + pesticide levels. You will be fine. Avoid brown rice if you eat rice everyday.

1 cup rice + 1 cup water in the insta-pot for about 5 minutes, it's perfect. Always be generous with the soy sauce or Tamari.

The moral of the story is,
