with full grown body hair you could save on winter clothes!
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I've been shaving my back and shoulder hair basically my entire life, 1-2x a week in the shower (back hair grows faster in Summer???) and today I was gonna do my same old routine, but realized there is zero point. I've been alone my entire life and never date, no one wants to **** me, and I never take my shirt off in public anyway. Who am I doing this for? What is the point? Why do anything to improve my image, really? I think I'm just going to stop all upkeep for a while and completely let myself decline, as I now truly see no logical reason to keep healthy and well-kempt. I'm going full Ted Kazinski, no more shaving, working out, watching my weight, haircuts, or planning outfits. This Summer I am going to get real gross and see if I'm happier that way.

You should still have some routine (you should maintain a healthy weight for example). But if you feel more comfortable/want to start not shaving and growing your hair out like that, then go for it. I do think you should be somewhat well-kept and still exercise. Do stuff differently but don't go on a decline. It's only gonna make things worse for you.

cherry blacks - unlubed - filmed and springswapped with tx 55g mediums - alu Plate | pretty happy with this, the blacks were cherry picked so they weren't that scratchy to begin with, but currently breaking them in, may lube them with a dry lube like ro59 or ptfe powder.

lubed with tribosys 3203 | like topre a lot, prefer it lubed but did make less tactile but that might have been a skill issue. probably will get more tactile over time as the domes age.

gateron yellows - lubed with 205g0 - 62g tx mediums - pc plate | probably my favourite keyboard already, feels super nice and sounds pretty good, it's got a great layout as well. probably gonna build this with mx browns, I feel like it would suit the board more.

stock with silent reds | Pretty cool looking board, the silent reds are actually good, they are smooth and I don't mind the mushiness (it's not even that mushy as well). the layout is pretty weird, but is useable. will probably mod this in the future. maybe a pcb and plate swap, change the keycaps to something dolch like, and also spring swap the springs in the silent reds.

Built with new nixies on pc half plate. Love this board already, probably the best looking board I own, those brass accents are so mint. Really like it as is, but I do want to try an alu build (probably with nixies as well) just to experiment with that.

I agree with Rhienfo for the most part. It's fine if you forego maintaining your appearance, but you might regret letting your health decline as a result of the way you're temporarily feeling. A little extra fat might actually be good, depending on your current build. There was a girl who used to work at the Cool Stuff Inc in Winter Park who I overheard mentioning to one of her coworkers that she prefers a man with a beer belly. "More cushion for the pushin'" were her exact words. My of my female friends once told me she prefers men who are balding, so...

I started trimming my body hair with clippers a couple years ago for both appearance and general comfort (you know how gross we can get in Florida). Curiously, I've been letting my head and facial hair go wild.  :p Also curiously, my friend has realized women seem to have a strange attraction to him when he lets himself go (days without showering, no haircuts, grubby clothes, etc.). It might be pheromones or something similarly primal. So, maybe this will be good for you. I look forward to updates.

Red wine is dumb.. it makes you feel like you've been poisoned. There's nothing sophisticated about it, it's just a poorly made intoxicant. Whiskey gets the job done fast and is exceptionally pure.

Goes great with red meat. No it does not. It makes everything smell like a vinegary hospital.

Once I walked into a store and the lady behind the counter said that a belly is really nice to have because it's so comfortable to lie on it. She was attractive so her opinion counts.

I reckon soft bellies serve a purpose within the lexicon o' love, as do hard bodies. The girl at the game shoppe I mentioned was attractive as well, so her opinion was also relevant.

Usually guys say that is a plus for specific positions, but if she was talking about a man I'm just imagining a woman being slammed in the face with a beer belly repeatedly

wonder if it leaves an imprint like memory foam

Torturing animals

I have mixed feelings about zoos and such. Life for the prisoners is miserable, to be sure (although it is an "easy" life and they get free food and medical care).

But a single enclosure is likely to be seen by hundreds (or thousands) of people per day. That increases their awareness of the variety of creatures sharing the world with us. The big question is : Does this increase or decrease "tourism" or whatever form of invasion it is when humans take themselves into the creatures' natural habitat?

If seeing a panda in a zoo satisfies your curiosity enough to make YOU decide not to tromp into THEIR natural forest - that is a big win, and the sacrifice of the few has imporved the lives of the many.
Bret Stephens (NYT 2025-03-10) starts with the tariffs, noting that every president since the Great Depression has correctly concluded that the ensuing economic crisis and World War that followed that calamity was attributable in large part to the notorious 1930 Smoot Hawley Tariffs.
That is, until the current occupant of the Oval Office. Until him, no U.S. president has been so ignorant of the lessons of history. Until him, no U.S. president has been so incompetent in putting his own ideas into practice. That’s a conclusion that stock markets seem to have drawn as they plunged following the Trump triple whammy: first, tariff threats against our largest trading partners, spelling much higher costs; second, twice-repeated monthlong reprieves on some of those tariffs, meaning a zero-predictability business environment; finally, his tacit admission, to Maria Bartiromo of Fox News, that the United States could go into recession this year, and that it’s a price he’s willing to pay to do what he calls a “big thing.” In short, a willful, erratic and heedless president is prepared to risk both the U.S. and global economy to make his ideological point. This won’t end well, especially in a no-guardrails administration staffed by a how-high team of enablers and toadies.
But Stephens goes further than simply castigating these pointless and destructive tariffs that Trump has taken such a pathological shine to. He explains how the fancifully created “Department of Governmental Efficiency, (“DOGE”) would be more aptly characterized as an engine of wholesale destruction. Because nothing Musk is doing is about “efficiency.”

For a former fried chicken enthusiast such as yourself, the "existence" of chicken fried steak must make sense, at least.

Basically this. If you walk into a diner and can't decide between the steak and fried chicken, why not combine them? American ingenuity at it's finest (although I suspect the inventor had German roots and was trying to make a shnitzle)

Catfish is not too bad, especially the small ones. Their profoundly horrible neighbor is carp, the fish with the most vile and repulsive taste and smell of all.

Finally finished installation on the new motorized mount for desk and tv.

They're much faster these days such that it's no longer a chore waiting for them to adjust.

Back in the day, you'd fall asleep when the motor took their sweet time. Or if you kiz remember the hand crank models. OMG.

Score !!

This seller on Ebay sent Tp4 a brand new motherboard.  Brand new, no screw marks, not a salvage. Not even initialized with dell's service tag.

Bummed that Tp4 had to buy it in the first place, but, nonetheless, silver lining.

Picked, peeled and sliced apples for an apple pie; Laid them in a tin and sprinkled sugar and ... cumin instead of cinnamon. Noticed the smell. Made chutney.

Tp4 has had apple pie over hot white rice, it's basically just like curry.

I once had a chunky mango curry caramel sauce over breast milk ice cream, one of the best ice creams I've ever had. Still remember over 12 years later....

and its fat content is too high

Cleaned out the old movie-puter desktop cpu cooler. Phewww. Dusty.

Really liking 140mm fans.  Huge advantage in cleaning the fan blades, you can get the little vacuum brush in there, the 120mm gaps are a bit too small.

Temp dropped ~2.5 degrees from cleaning the heatsink and fan. Reduced rpm by 300.

Life has been really aimless and pointless the past week. Got nothing done. Did nothing. Accomplished nothing.
Just rotted away this week.

Had an acupuncture session and followed it with flu + covid vaccinations.

Apparently a small number had just come in to Walgreens an hour before, the official rollout is "early September" and the first pharmacist didn't even know they were there.

I asked if they had had any bad reactions, and they said "Not yet - you will be our first patient."

But I got a fresh batch, anyway ....
