London UK meetup 2016
« on: Sat, 05 November 2016, 06:44:55 »
Dear all,

We have finalised a date, time and place in London -

Date: Sunday 4th December
Time: 1pm - 4:30 PM
Venue: 90 Central Street, London EC1V 8AJ (St. Luke's Community Centre), in the dining room, which is the first room you see when you come in.

Four of us mods/orgainisers will be there, and will keep an eye on things, since the meetup will not be held in a private room, but in a space accessable by the public. Some vendors such as MechSupply/UKKeycaps, Pexon, Mechboards are coming. Some raffles and giveaways will happen ;)

Us mods mainly hang out at our Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1028791307238170/), where you can request to join. I can answer you questions and hear your suggestions here if you prefer :) I manage the advertisement of this event, haha.

Thanks for the support, and I hope to hear from you soon!

And if you have trouble deciding what board to bring you can post here too :P

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I'm going to bring a suitcase I think. I want to protect my Lightsaver as much as possible so it's going to stay in it's shipping box, then my LZ will be wrapped up and keycool in it's box too. Might bring my Ducky to sell if anyone is interested :P

Really? That sucks man. I can't believe they are that expensive already, where are you getting the train from? I would say you could get a lift with me if I was driving down but I'm getting the train as well hah.

I'd have to get to manchester then another one, I'll relook again but most of the ones with return ended up being £100 or more ._.

Actually just checked again even if I buy two singles its £90 .-. or 109 for a return dam a bit much, maybe next time we need to do this with a month or two notice to get cheaper tickets :(

Definitely going!

Board wise, not sure, I want to take X60/X65/X75 but the weight is a massive problem as I want to spend the whole day in London. Might make it a weekend thing so will find a hotel somewhere...

Since the event page can't be seen, I'll just type the info out again...:

4th December 2016, 13:00 - 16:30

St. Luke's Community Center, 90 Central Street, EC1V 8AJ

Nearest tube station: Barbican

Parking lots available (?)

It'd be nice if everyone uses a piece of paper to write down their keyboard details for each board and their usernames on different forums  :)

Might be good to have a stash of post-it notes for people to grab and fill in themselves.

I have acquired some from work for people to use. I will also bring pens.

I could also bring stickers for people to write their names on if you want? :P

I just thought, paper would probably be better to stand up on boards rather than curly post it notes. I will bring a stash of paper with me so we can get some signage set up.

I will try and source some stickers too.

I wont be there until about 13:00 so hopefully I wont be too late to help with the signage and stuff. I would get an earlier train if i could but I already booked the tickets for a specific train :(

Well I shouldn't be there too late, so the paper will still be there for people to write up as and when they arrive.

I will get a taxi from Farringdon station (my train gets in at 12:27) which should only take me five minutes so I will be there in plenty of time. I was going to walk but sod it.

Its saying it will be a 17 minute walk from Farrington station to the venue. Dont think its much less than that from Old street where most will be getting off at.

Hey guys, the parking situation is like this:

"Its free parking on the street Sundays normally is pay and display"

? ? ?

Another option I recommend is parking at the nearest tube/train station and taking a train here, or alternatively walking here.

Hi All, The meetup is now under a day and a half away! Looking forward to meeting you and trying some keyboards out!

However because this is a free community event it means that we have no budget for food or drinks. So if you would like some food or drinks please bring them along yourselves, but don’t feel you are obliged to provide, it’s a free event. I will be buying small selection of drinks which will likely go quick!

After the event itself we were thinking of making our way to a pub or a restaurant. We will choose on the day depending on how many people are interested as I know some people are coming a long way to be with us!

Me and PollandAkuma will be there on the day if you have any questions etc!

Had such a good time today! Was great talking to everyone, and thanks for bringing such an interesting range of boards Thomas! Here are some pictures I got. The room was a bit dark, so most photos have a fair bit of noise, but I'm sure that can be overlooked. I stupidly didn't take as many photos while it was busier, but the turnout was really great.

Wew lads, that was a good meetup! Hope to see you again next year! Post pics and identify yourself here too!

Agreed! A great meetup! Was great to meet so many people and try out so many different keyboards! However I didn't manage to talk to Thomas today! :'(
Aww :( . I was around for most of the day Oo .

I turned up late because I missed my first train. I then made my way round the other side of the table and by the time I got round the corner of the table where you were, you were packing the boards away  :'(
