If you're not interested in giving google/apple the last piece of your daily schedule (exercise/sleep tracking) the only thing a screen that small is good for is saving the 5 seconds it takes to check the phone in your pocket to see who's contacting you, and in exchange for this you need to remember to charge it daily.  Unless you get a lot of unwanted contact while not sat at a desk where you can see your phone screen anyway they seem utterly pointless to me.

No, nothing that fun.  If you can find a suitably sized emitter you could probably fit it in place of the vibration motor in the Pinewatch, which is cheap and DIY firmware friendly?  Alternately just 3D print a bigger case...

I've been interested in the Pine line of watches, just due to the fact I can tinker.

I'm more interested in their phones - proper Linux in your pocket with the option of a keyboard.  The only thing the watch could be useful for would be GPS while riding a bike but the screen just isn't big enough, I have a Raspberry Pi with a soundcard and night vision camera to tinker with, it hasn't left it's box in 5 years :-[
