6th Anniversary at Geekhack
« on: Sun, 11 March 2018, 11:22:29 »
So, it all started for me on this day 6 years ago.

It's been a wild ride since then. I've met some really cool people here, and made some good friends, too. I came for the keyboards, but stayed for the community.

Remember that time we all tunred our avatars into sharks for Halverson?

Happy anniversary JD!

Yes, the community is what makes me stay around here even without a single board for the last 8/9 months. Hope to see you here still when I get to my 6th anniversary. :)

Nice. Can this kind of logo be made in a "badge" or something around here?

EDIT: Like the "stars" and such

EDIT #2: Mods would of course give them to worthly community members such as yourself... or me. :D

Well, Lastpilot made that logo for the GEEKHACK SIX ANNIVERSARY contest in 2013.

I suspect it is too large to be made into a star, at least anything recognizable as the original.

Maybe a little keycap icon with our year inside or something?

Maybe a modified version of this could be made for long time members and put as a signature. Dunno. I just like the image.

Yeah, Lastpilot is great at design. He made the logos for the GH60 and the JD40 (which I modified for the original JD45).

The keycap icon ideal would be pretty cool, maybe even make it so you could have the profile of your choosing! Not sure how feasible those things are as I have no ideal about making/maintaining a website, but it would be pretty sweet for multi year members. :)

Congrats :D

Seems I'm only just over 3 months behind you

Can't remember which one I ended up using, but this one looks the most complete191323-0 ...

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

It's amazing to realize that I've now been here for four years. I remember you being one of the first people I talked to; happy anniversary mate!

You're only here for six years?!
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.
