it's dodgy because it's suppose to be gigabit.  even accounting for overhead, this is low throughput.

I was only doing 1 way test.

Hmm... it's much quicker than 100 so I guess they went up but it's not good.  Definitely not cables or another I/O heavy process on the other end?

In my experience, a sustained 97meg (big B) is on the better end of Gigabit transfer rates, anything beyond mid 80's is good (good, not great) for Windows to Windows.
Linux or NAS drives will drop you another 20 on average in my experience.

I'd love to hit a sustained 97 on my current network, I haven't seen speeds like that since I left Windows.

Are you using a heavier hash protocol though ? what's causing the loss.

I haven't gotten that far into it, I have been more focused on the hardware side of it.
When you have access to lots of hardware, it is easier to throw parts at it than to actually troubleshoot and research, especially in a mixed OS environment. Lots of variables on the software side, whereas hardware is hardware.
