Peloton bike ?
« on: Thu, 10 September 2020, 15:43:58 »
Why peeps pay $2500 for dis' ?

Why not spend $50 on a used exercise bike. and $2450 for a 65" LG OLED,  and watch things you actually want to watch, like FIREFLY..

**** peloton bikes they're overpriced and not worth it, just as you say tp.

They also tried to sue a bunch of people for using the word "peloton" which is used by pretty every bike racer on the planet. Bad reputation in my book.

peloton is kinda dumb to me. i see the use case for it, but honestly it's like buying a $300 dyson because you didn't want to get the shopvac that looked too industrial. zwift on your own road bike and fluid trainer is a much better combo and way cheaper.

Just spend that $2k a super nice bike and hook it up to a stationary conversion kit. It'll be 1000x nicer than any stationary plus you can actually ride it outside too.

2K doesn't get you 'super nice' in the road biking world ;)

This doesn't make any sense,   They're touting this 100,000,000,000 addressable market, now that gyms are out.

A $2500 exercise bike. When so many people are out of a job, heading into an even worse economy.  The Subscription service is super expensive too. $39/ month.

The $12.99 subscription doesn't give you access to the main bread/butter live classes.

Used peloton bikes come up all the time in the secondary market, still at ~$1600

People haven't fundamentally changed.  Exercise is not suddenly fun just because of the pandemic.  it's still significantly less fun than everything else that doesn't cost $2500 and a $39.99 subscription.

If it had a more complex mechanism, it'd be worth the $2500 at least.  but it's a very dead simple magnetic resistance bike.

For the curious, it's just a belt drive steel wheel w/ a strong magnet placed at a variable distance to the wheel to create resistance via, <eddy currents>,

You can get mechanically equivalent bikes like this for $20-50 used on craigslist ALL DAY long.

I know a lot of cyclists. Only one who has bothered with a Peleton (he has a lot of spare cash) the rest just ride on the road, or with indoor trainers on their road bikes.

that's truth. Real hardcore cyclists will either find an indoor track or make their outdoor bike stationary.

You dont know what you're talking about - I've only built bikes never really bought them but for 2k you can certainly have a very nice bike EZ.
People I've given money to from this webform who never respond to me and have not shipped me anything: ctrlalt.io 1 2, Team Readline Reputable alternatives to GH group buys: http://pimpmykeyboard.com, https://www.massdrop.com,

Then I'd say you don't have any idea what a lot of roadies consider "super nice". Emphasis on the words in quotes.

My own standards are pretty low however. Because when I ride, the limiting factor is the motor.

I never understood the appeal of stationary bicycles. With good clothing, you can ride in almost any weather, so why take all the fun out of it by 'riding' indoors on a stationary bike? I don't get it.
