Gaming Keyboard for MMORPG
« on: Thu, 20 April 2017, 17:21:00 »
Hello, i'm currently looking for a good gaming keyboard, tenkeyless. I currently have a razer blackwidow tournament edition.

I play games like Aion, Revelation Online, League of Legends. I need a keyboard that allowed me to be very fast for gaming in MMO PvP.

Was thinking either Cherry MX red or brown. But i dont know too much about it.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Cherry Silvers are perfect for gaming if you can find a board with them in stock. Do you like linear switches? (no bump or click) If you cant find silvers then get Cherry Reds.

If you like a bump then browns are good for fast actuation.

Switches are a personal prefernce, I like linear switches for gaming and the heavier the better, (think MX Blacks)

I'm currently gaming on Topre switches and it's working out just fine.

If you're looking for fast switches I'd recommend looking at Cherry MX Red or Corsair exclusive Cherry MX Speed available on the K70 from Corsiar

Silvers take less pressure to press, and the key input happens higher on the press than reds, meaning you don't need to press them as far down.

The downside is accidental key presses are much more common

Correct, I wouldn't' recommend them as a typist keyboard but if you're looking for a gaming keyboard (which you are) then you'll love Silvers.

The 'Speed' is no longer Corsair exclusive. It is the same as the Cherry MX Silver that is becoming widely available lately.

Wrong.

Silvers have a shorter travel distance but require a bit more pressure than reds.

Look at their force chart. I've also experienced both switches and have decided to go back to reds exactly because of that extra required pressure. They are indeed heavier (slightly but still).

Actually you're wrong!! hahaha

Both Red's and Cherry's have an actuation force of 45cN.

I own both and I can tell you they're the same, Silver is just shorter!

For gaming specifically, I can't see how anyone would prefer any other switch over Cherry Silvers..

OP, honestly any linear switch will be fine for gaming. Just get a nice and simple TKL like a KBP V80 with MX Reds and you're golden.

I have really liked my Filco TKL mx-reds w/ dampers and PBT Vortex doubleshot keycaps.

I mostly play FPS games ... the filco has just been perfect (except for the stock keycaps.. which I replaced and knew I would want to replace going into it.)

ideally before you buy try out keyboards with cherry and costar stabilizers ... this is a subjective and somewhat devise issue... some like cherry stabs and others such as myself haaate cherry stabs.. I much prefer costar stabs

costar: KBParadise, Filco, CM, Ganss (I think),WASD.. others??

cherry: ducky, leopold, Kul... ??? etc

despite my love of my own Filco MT2 TKL.. there is certainly an argument for it being over priced.. I was will to pay the premium for a keyboard I believed would (and has for 2~yrs) meet my needs for years to come..   I did get my filco on sale and got the keycaps for $25~ from massdrop so all in I was $150~ish for the keyboard..    If you want you can also pay about $50~ more and get the super kool (i think) KOBO frames at the time of purchase w/ Filco...   I kinda wish I had done that with mine..but meh.. I also wish they would sell the frames after market..but I digress..

Even if with my limited mech experience I can say I agree. Costar stabilizers make it a pain to remove the keycaps if needed but they are heavier imo.
Here is a useful page about stabs.

Depends on vendor price and import taxes.

Good luck with your quest OP. :thumb:

For MMOs, I prefer light/medium linear switches (Cherry Red/Gateron Black), F-row close to alphas and win-keyed for comfortable access to as many keys and modifiers as possible (left-side macro row isn't as easy/quick to use as a closer F-row for myself). Currently looking to build a custom 75% keyboard for this reason, just sad that it doesn't look like I'll be able to find one with 1.5/1/1.5 lbottom-left row (pushes L-alt to a slightly more comfortable position) and split space-bar option.
