Your Favorite Films of All Time
« on: Thu, 26 June 2014, 10:04:59 »
Share some of your most beloved movies here! I'd like to get a grasp of the kind of films people like on here.

I'm a huge Film buff and and a wannabe film critic

From what I can't think of off the top of my head is as follows:

Every Monty Python ever put to film!

The Evil Dead 1- 1981

Evil Dead 2- 1987

Army of Darkness (Evil Dead 3)

The Shining- 1980

A Clockwork Orange- 1971

Fargo- 1999

Citizen Kane- 1941

There Will Be Blood- 2007

Psycho- 1960

Pulp Fiction- 1994

The Matrix- 1999

Terminator 1 & 2

The Grand Budapest Hotel

And so many more! I'll probably sort threw all these and do them by genre for ease of reading later.

And probably a lot more that I forgot, or haven't seen quite a long time.  I'll update my list as I think of some of my other favorites.

I watch so many films though, It's really a huge part of my life. I can get so passionate talking to someone about film it's insane. If only I could afford to go to the theater more often though, Or that I had an awesome theater around me like the Alamo Drafthouse or something similar.

As boring as it sounds:

Star Wars IV-VI

are the movies I have seen the most by far.

With a huge gap come things like Pulp Fiction and Matrix I.

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Johnny: Oh, pretty good. We got a new client and the bank will make a lot of money.

Johnny: I cannot tell you; it's confidential.

Johnny: No, I can't. Anyway, how is your sex life?

I'm going to have to re-watch this. I'm reading through quotes and it's just tooooo bad.

Birdemic.

A classic.
Birdemic 2: The Resurrection just blows the already visual masterpiece and character driven plot  of the original, to the extreme!

Birdemic 2 is truly a classic.

The fact that it's described as a Romantic Horror Thriller is just terrible.

That, and it's terrible.

The film that changed my life was a 2nd-tier film in the overall scheme of things, but it blew my mind.

I was 18 years old in 1970 when I started college. The student center held a variety of free and open activities for students (this was back before colleges were profit centers), and one of them was the "Sunday Night Art Film Series" otherwise known as "freak flicks".

The first time I went, I saw Fellini's "Juliet of the Spirits" and it was the first "weird" movie I had ever seen. It was a total eye-opener and revelation to me, and made me a serious film fan for life.

PS - I was not stoned at the time, either.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Alrite, so I just watched birdemic...  thinking,, well birdemic 2's gotta be better right, cuz you can't get worse than the first one..

Well... I was wrong... haha..  sigh..........  at least there was nudity in the second movie...

honestly,, i think these films are good in a way, because they lower the bar...

so anyone who wants to make a film today... as long as it's slightly better than birdemic, they could say,  well at least it was better than birdemic...

this is a question I really can't answer. There are some movies that I love with a passion because they are part of my childhood but that I can't say they are Great movies (I like Mary Poppins, so sue me). Other films that I like without a reason (like Starship troopers), others that I like because they remind me of fine moments spent with my wife (The Mummy... yeah the one with brendan fraser). I don't know, this is a question that I always find hard to answer. The Matrix and the first Star Wars (EP.IV) are in the list for sure.

I thought everybody liked starship-troopers and the mummy...   I even got mummy 2 bray.. didn't like mummy 3

mary poppins though didn't jive with me, cuz I was never subjected to authority, be it magical or otherwise.

I'm kind of bias with my films because I love zombies.....A LOT!!!

I would have to start with the entire Evil Dead series. Including Army of Darkness!

Zombieland
Undead "...time is short. So you gotta ask yourself: Are you a fighter, Fish Queen, or are you zombie food?" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0339840/
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil

There are more but that's good enough for now.

In no particular order, and attempting to keep out the obvious or already said answers - therefore not a complete list.

  • Anything by Rian Johnson - Brick (2005), The Brothers Bloom (2008), Looper (2012); also directed the Breaking Bad episodes "Fly", "Fifty-One", and "Ozymandias"
  • Anything by Phil Lord and Chris Miller - Clone High (TV) (2002), Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (2009), 21 Jump Street (2012), The Lego Movie (2014), and 22 Jump Street (2014) --- Seriously, watch Clone High
  • Anything by Hitchcock - Rope (1948) is a less-known one that's amazing, but I also love Rear Window (1954), Vertigo (1958), North by Northwest (1959), Psycho (1960), and basically everything else
  • The Illusionist (2006) - overshadowed by The Prestige, which came out in the same year, but The Illusionist is really amazing
  • Zodiac (2007)

1. Unforgiven
2. The Matrix Trilogy
3. Le Grand Bleu

It blurs from there and it's so hard to rank in order, but other favs are...

- A Clockwork Orange
- Braveheart
- Blade Runner
- The Usual Suspects
- Pulp Fiction
- Star Wars
- The Professional
- La Femme Nikita

Not favorites but first 2 that popped in my mind are The Sting and Léon.
This sucks more than anything that has ever sucked before.

Kiki's Delivery Service

you know it

sry, Howl's Moving Castle

Non animated I don't think I care enough.

Rush Hour 3!!

Love HMC equally as much, maybe a little more.

Not favorites but first 2 that popped in my mind are The Sting and Léon.

Forgot about Leon...love that film. Also, Lost in Translation. And Closer. And Inglourious Basterds remake. And I have so many favorite films of all time, it just depends on my mood really.

Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins
Big Trouble in Little China

Wasn't much into Anime movies but I liked the 3x3 Eyes series...

I predict the upcoming movie Interstellar will be one of my favorites.  Looking forward to it!
