Someone stole our stuff.
« on: Wed, 16 March 2016, 18:39:23 »
Welp, someone broke into our temporary stoarge unit and stole lots of ****. I don't know if all my keycaps and keyboard were taken yet, but our TV consoles, my step fathers medals, consoles, and generally tore **** up and everything is all ****ed up.

Hopefully they didn't take all my keyboard stuff...We're going to go through everything tomorrow to see what was taken and send that over to the insurance company.

Ugh, that sucks indeed. Sorry to hear that. Fortunately they are insured but still, some sentimental stuff are irreplaceable. What type of storage units are you using?

Standard outdoor storage unit at an U-Haul or something of the sort (Forgot the name of the place)

they just broke the lock and opened it up I guess.

my step fathers medals,

My uncle was a multiple-decorated WW2 Air Force hero, and someone stole his medals from my cousin's house. That is about as low as you can go.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Never drive to the storage unit in ur Weekend car..

Always take the ****tiest car..

And for the first few weeks,  make friends with the guy out front..  He's actually the guy tipping off the thieves as to who to steal from.

You want to make sure this storage unit guy thinks you're some loon, storing absolute garbage..

Depends,  the Snitches are usually quite versed in old stuff that may be worth money..

You want to make him think you're storing used kitty litter..

Also,  I can't stress this enough.. don't LOOK GOOD on the days you go..

LOOK as Unmade and UGLY as possible..   there's alot of strategy to this.. People devalue ugly people upfront using an exponential function..

The uglier you look,  the more likely they'll think your stuff is worth ****..

This is not the time and place to impress.

Good luck bro. Had the same **** happen to me over the summer...Dumbasses broke into our unit and stole my toolbox...all of the tools were in boxes, and they didn't take any of those. So, our storage company is now buying me a new $5,000 toolbox.

That sucks :(

I hope you are able to resolve the situation without loss of keyboard amenities!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Some people right next to us had their unit also broken into, but they luckily didn't have anything of value in theirs, from what I heard, just christmas decorations, etc...

Well of course that happened, because it'd be highly suspicious if only 1 single locker was broken into.. that would mean the information for -the goods- was highly targeted..

Which would tip off the insurance company as to the scam..

They're all in on this together..

They're crooks from the very beginning..

The odds of that are next to none.  I doubt the person even knows it's worth anything and, if it did pop up, people would know pretty quick (like selling painted Warhammer figures online) and they'd be a dumb, caught thief.

I agree, but if they were to search and find that they do have value.. and only to this keyboard community, they may not know they are one off and get caught. So, I would not totally dismiss it, more if we know which ones were the one offs that were there.

Dustin's Unholy Grail mummy was one of them, and a Wine-o mummy (I'm not sure if this was a one-off or not, but I think it is)

And my first artisan, a Steel BBV2.

Live and let on, I guess. Sucks that those two are lost though, not just for my self but for the communities sake also. :(

Damn that blows. DUG is one-off but I think there are more Wine-Os, maybe 1 more MX and 1 or 2 topre.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done
