In the bigger picture, this superb book (which was generally ignored when it was published) frames the milieu in which a "debate" can still be continuing:

https://www.amazon.com/Assault-Reason-Al-Gore/dp/1594201226
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Given the resistance and pushback by People's accustomed lifestyles..

The natural catastrophy is accelerated faster than we can change their minds..

-- Don't eat this
-- Don't buy an iph0
-- Don't drive
-- etc, etc..

It took almost 60 years to acknowledge smoking's impact on health..

Now project this type of sticky mindset towards other habits.

Add in the inherent inefficient decision making of Democracy..

=  We are So Screwed.. !!!

This is a symptom of the problem

Only in the last 10-15 years did we have Very Good FMRI, functional magnetic resonance imaging.

Used to more completely understand, just how people Decide.

Every human problem is actually the same problem..

When we Feel Good, -For any reason at all-,    The brain starts to turn off our executive logic systems, the system that Plans for the future, the one capable of analyzing existential threats.

The brain detunes that system, because it has determined that that system can wind-down (A power saving feature, as we've "Accomplished" our goal, be it food/ xercise/ mating/ drugs/ chocolate/ coffee/ tea.

So, with Technology in ALL industries,  we've refined the Pleasure inductive mechanisms to humanity to SUCH a point,   that it's a broken meter..

Be it a political decision,  an economic decision,  made by the Rich, OR by the Poor.

They are ALL equally mired in a circular hedonistic matrix inadequate at tackling the Bigger problems.

Yet, Al Gore is on the board of directors at Apple.
Which he can't be unless he is a pretty big shareholder.

It took almost 60 years to acknowledge smoking's impact on health..
Only in the US and in other backwards places. It was well-known among both doctors and public in Europe.
It's the same with the Climate Change issue today. It is only USA that is halting progress.
That is because in USA, it is big corporations and well-funded lobbyist groups that gets to define what is "true" in the mindset of the US citizenship. The news media is bought and the politicians are bought.

It's not fair to say, it's USA..

ask any person here, is Killing Rainforests bad..  they'll mostly tell you yes that's bad..

But,  ask the rich people who run the media, you get a different answer..

Capitalism, and their political dynasties run America..

The people are GOOD PEOPLE..   but we are riddled with corrupt governance..

Corrupt governance DUE TO,  Pleasure inductive industries which has Broken our decision matrix.

Hey! Not before I have seen it. And I have not even seen season 6 because I want to read the remaining books first.

I suppose we are all a little shortsighted about our own culpability. Sweden for example, rightly boasts their environmental sensibilities by being a forerunner in clean energy production while at the same time producing furniture with a three year life span (Ikea) that fills American landfills.

GOT is really soso..

It appeals to the sex-addict audience , typical of HBO

The story has one thing going for it,  that little dude,  he's articulate and interesting.. But everything else is kinda lame.

As for Reading the books..  it's excessively wordy like Tolkien..  You'd have a better time getting drunk and playing some overwatch,

Hah! I’ve never seen the show but having a granddaughter with dwarfism has made Peter Dinklage quite a star in our family.

I watched all of his movies.. ,  dang,  holywood is a tough place..   none of his prior roles really took full advantage of his talents..
