Looking for advice for a set of studio monitors

Currently rocking some cheap best buy speakers seen here http://www.bestbuy.com/site/logitech-z323-speaker-system-black/1200842.p?id=1218231850357&skuId=1200842

I've got them hooked up to a JDS Labs O2+ODAC http://www.jdslabs.com/products/48/o2-odac-combo/

Looking to replace the speakers with a pair of studio monitors, looking to spend around a hundred bucks!

So you're looking for a pair of powered studio monitors under $100? You're gonna have a hard time if you're looking to buy new. You can definitely do better than Logitech for $100 though.

Maybe find a (~50w) amp and then some entry-level passive bookshelves like Micca MB42x?

Alternatively, buy used and see if you can find a pair of Rokit monitors or something. At $100 I don't think you'll find anything you can truly call 'studio monitors'. Check craigslist, though. You'd be surprised what people are getting rid of.

Ditto plegnic: Real studio monitors are real expensive. Lots of cheap crappy speakers these days make pretensions of being "pro" quality or "studio monitors". Real studio monitors are capable of accurate sound reproduction at ear-splitting levels. No $100 speakers need apply, whether new or used -- just aint happenin' in this lifetime. Take it from someone with decades of obsession with high quality sound reproduction...going all the way back to the original AR-3's. Just out of curiosity, how many of you remember those? Even visited the original AR factory at 24 Thorndike Street in Cambridge, MA "back in the day".

You talking about the Pioneer BS-22s? I've heard those are really good for the price. (And if you look at the other stuff that Andrew Jones has designed, it makes sense)

I would get the larger towers from that same series when they're on sale,  last year it was $120 for 2x towers..

Throw in a used or budget receiver, and you get way way better sound than even the best computer cards..
