Has anyone seen these?
« on: Sun, 31 January 2016, 20:17:57 »
I ran across these on Taobao (scroll down the page for pics) and I'm wondering if these are fairly well-known? I've never heard of or seen them before. It's a capacitive membrane based board (a la Topre) but I don't recognize the keycaps, domes, or anything else. Is it a knockoff of something or ... ? I don't know. Just wondering.

I'll ask my friend to translate tonight, but so far all he's said is that the RGB version comes in white, non-rgb comes in white/grey, with TKL and 100% variants, they're compatible with MX Keycaps, overall VERY interested in this board, I might pick one up if I end up going to China around April

if it's cheap I'd consider buying it just for the sliders

These are obviously Topre knock-offs. They used the Realforce name for a couple of them:

I don't know what the weighting is on those, but the 108 black or white RGB is 45g.

I thought the Thailand made Dell Quietkeys were the best "ratchet topre"? Interesting.

There are surprisingly few mechanical keyboard folks here..

He was the only person I've met thus far , i figured he'd be ok with it, since the rest of us like to feel each other's keyboards in 'murica..

I'm serious though, not just making this up. i saw that exact board..

Comparisons to actual topre? and can we get confirmation that it is possible to swap out topre sliders for these sliders?

Surprisingly similar because they have used a thick metal plate in which they've attached the thorpie switches to and it's tough.  Have furiously hammered the keys and no ping or any other noises can be heard.  Nice to actually type with a 55g resistance, please don't ask me to measure it since I don't have any specialized tools for that task but I know it's definitely firmer to press compared to the standard RF 104 keyboards.

The weight of this keyboard is somewhat heavier than the standard RF so that's good, plus the lasered keys associated with this purchase are okay to me but to the enthusiast at large that loves their BSP keys, there's no comparison.  Even though this keyboard is made by Hansung in China, it has delivered a very usable keyboard and with the CherryMX sliders could definitely use any type of SA or Cherry profiled keys with this keyboard.

Another thing of note here, it looks like the keyboard casing is made out of PBT along with the keys because they have a similar texture and feel to each other.  You also get the spacer key which is all PBT as well, imagine a Chinese company offering an all PBT key-set yet the Japs refused to use any PBT spacers on any of their models.

Just surprised to be singing the praises here for a "Made in China" product but considering this is thus far the ONLY 55g thorpie keyboard currently available I had to buy it to see what's it's like, it's now connected permanently to one of my PC's.

The casing looks to be made out of PBT because it doesn't flex at all when stressed.  I usually twist each casing I buy to see how it squeaks and normally all ABS casings squeak when twisted.

The keyboard is quite solid compared to most others being sold today, definitely surprised with it's quality since we've all purchased keyboards from them (China) over the years that left us feeling cheap and nasty after using them but not this one.

Can the sliders be swapped into a legit Topre board so that we can use Cherry keysets?

I'd be very interested in getting myself one of these if the sliders are Topre->MX compatible. Quite a nice price, too - $70-ish according to current exchange rates.

I'd be willing to wager they are. They look almost identical to the Royal Kludge sliders:

PBT?  I thought only keys were made of PBT.

What other cases are made of PBT?

They have their keys made from PBT which are lasered so nothing to be excited about BUT the casing is unique because that same rough texture in the keys is mimicked on the casing.

Usually I try moving the side of the casing with my heavy set thumb and I can make a normal ABS case twist and stretch or until I break it but this casing won't flex at all.  Surprisingly strong but it's definitely not ABS or Acrylic and it isn't aluminum either, hence it's still a type of plastic compound hence it just might be PBT.

Only way to tell that it is PBT is to pour some lacquer thinner onto it and see how it degrades but I won't be doing that.  ABS would immediately start deforming before your eyes but PBT will retain it's shape for a while.

This is the first keyboard I've bought that looks to be made form PBT hence I can't point to another manufacturer doing any right now.

Another thing of note here, this keyboard has Co-star stabilizers which are greased with some top quality lube plus all the keys can be replaced with any CherryMX type of key-set.

Also they look more similar to Topres Purple Silent Sliders.

THey look just a little longer allowing to put a silencer on it.

Ahhhh you youngster's, always wanting to make something unusual out of your keyboards.  Also remember this keyboard doesn't come with all RGB leds at all it only has the standard three, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock and Numpad blue leds.

Also remember that dying is a very risky art form because it can go wrong easily when applied, I've seen real fvck-ups in dying when keys are coloured wrongly but keyboards is another level of pain to consider.
