Used laptop suffering from a plethora of keyboard issues
« on: Mon, 16 October 2017, 21:27:16 »
Hello,

I picked up a used Lenovo G50-45 laptop with some major keyboard issues and was hoping that by detailing them here someone might have an idea as to what is wrong with it.

Symptoms:
Some keys don't work (no input is read) - "a"
Some keys have 2 inputs binded to them - "b" = "vb"
Using the Program "SharpKeys" I see at times "E0_3F10" is being inputted despite it having no assigned key - this comes and goes but afterwards "q" is spammed as if it is being held down
Lshift/Rshift differ in functionality per key but most combinations result in no input being read

ABC's
vbcdefgik;mnmnoprstvbwxyz

Uppercase
Lshift - EGIOPRTWY
Rshift - VBCEGIMNMNOPRVBWXZ
Capslock - VBCDEFGIKMNMNOPRSTVBWXYZ

Happy to provide any other details
Thanks for your time

they sell replacement parts, including entire keyboard assemblies..

Just buy one, and replace it,  it's cheap only $20-30

There's no point in figuring out what's wrong..

Agreed.  Just replace the part.  Sounds like a liquid was spilled into the existing keyboard.

I would think that low-profile rubber domes wear out faster than others.

I have worn out keys on a Lenovo ThinkPad at work that I had been using for less than a year. I got a replacement keyboard for it the next day, but that was part of warranty or something

If you haven't checked yet, make sure the ribbon cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard isn't misaligned.
