TP: If you havent noticed, clickclack sells his things cheap(even though he could sell them for 200 dollar and he would get all keycaps sold eventually), I bet its not even worth it with the time he spends making the keycaps for the little money he is getting. Its the people thats driving up the prices, since clickclack is only 1 man (plus 1000 invisible gnomes LoL) he cant make keycaps for all of us and that makes people go crazy since everyone wants a piece of his legacy.

over n out

No see.. he's the guy selling you the clack,, THEN he's ALSO the guy auctioning on ebay..

And I have a feeling he's also in control of a few other acounts on this site, which auctions off his so called "Extra caps"

but the whole time, there were MANY extras... to be spread over months..

My main point is a few of the "alleged" $200 sales are made up and didn't really take place.

It's like you try to create a new clothing, but how could you convince someone that it's $200... by putting on a show where you complete a successful sale to a non existent person, clickclack himself...

The scam here is... click clack.. auctions his clacks to another account he's created.. then when THAT guy sells it, it'll look like a rare cap is making it's way through the market... BUT that's not the case... you're buying it from click clack @ $250  :D

At least this is how I would do it... if I ran out of pocket money.

DangWang sold one recently for $500. Not even a set, just a single Clack. I have heard tale of one going for $900 under specific circumstances.

noisy, there's no proof that any of these sales ACTUALLY happened...

It's like you run an art gallery... and I've worked with many of these... they have show nights like I've described, where people PRETEND to buy paintings.. to make it look like there's a market.

you know how they hire people to stand in line during product releases?  same gig..

...A retard makes a mistake because he's handicapped...
The rest of the clack-buyers make mistakes because they're stupid...
So what's your excuse then?

I find the fact that ClickClack can sell his POS plastic for more than a quarter AMAZING....
Boy, you sure know how to swing those compliments.
Maybe I can help you out.

- Are they a POS for being made by an artist?
- Are they a POS for being promoted by a community, who helped get them off the ground?
- Are they a POS for being made by equipment that I designed and fabricated?
- Are they a POS for being made in molds I personally tooled?
- Are they a POS for  the 1000's of hours I have spent making them?
- Are they a POS for the all the skill that went in to designing and making them?
- Are they a POS for being offered to a community?
- Are they a POS for being high quality?
- Are they a POS because I have high standards?
- Are they a POS because I tried to innovate?
- Are they a POS because I want them to represent some of my best efforts?
- Are they a POS because the designs are being copied?
Or
- Are they a POS because you love saying anything for attention?

Hey CC -

Yeah, I don't think tp4tissue has ever actually tried to do anything interesting or challenging in his entire life.  That's why he has no idea how much work goes into one of your keycaps.  (Also he's never seen one for himself AFAIK, so he has no idea what they look and feel like.)   In the end, I think tp4tissue's attitude really comes down to "sour grapes", just like that fox in Aesop's fable.   Oh and I have to thank you for the GC sale, even though I missed out on getting any Clacks, because you finally got my wife interested in my keyboard hobby!  She started following the rarar drama, and now she's hooked.  And now she wants to get a Topre Mr. Friday!  heh, who doesn't?  (Oh, and she applauded your decision to take the Mr. Friday back, btw.)   Anyway, keep up the good work, and I'll try again to snag something from your next sale.  As for tp4tissue, well, he's a mixed-up troll who craves the negative attention he gets.
I ♥ Click Clack.  I ♥♥♥ Bro Caps.

interesting thread.  nothing against cc or the community but to you cc owners, what is the justification in buying a plastic keycap for $100?  is it that the people actually value their own cc to be $100 or is it because the "market price" is $100?

again no disrespect or anything just curious

I am not sure how many times it has been explained, but here it goes again:

People will pay what they want for things they want. It has nothing to do with 'market value'. The market value is only a bi-product of the desire for hard-to-come-by items. If something is desired, but near impossible to get, somebody will pay whatever is needed to acquire that item. Do you remember collecting baseball cards? Coins? POG's? Toys that stayed in the original packaging? Etc.... etc.

If someone wants something bad enough, they will pay what is required. So if there are items running around that have seen low production numbers, and are rarely seen, those are sough-after items and can catch a good amount of money.

No one's arguing "against" this..

I am only saying that Clickclacks are a terrible investment..

For someone who Genuinely just wants the itty-bitty piece of plastic.. sure pay whatever ..

For anyone who's "investing" in clacks,, THIS IS A TRAP....

I don't really get your conspiracy theories. It's as simple as supply and demand. People like and want a product that sees limited production numbers. That automatically controls 'market value'.

Im not arguing against anything.  I'm just curious if people buy cc for their own sake or if they buy it just because its so hard to get/hype

what click clack DID DO, ingeniously is "created" a price tag for something that's otherwise worthless.

Everything is worthless.
It's only worth something because we place a value on it.
A glass of water to you is worth nothing, but to a person dying of thirst, it could be worth everything he has.

my claim, is that cc is generating artificial demand...
Even if they are creating artificial demand, they aren't the ones capitalizing on it. It;s the same as the red esc keys, it's worth what someone will pay.

i'm really not sure how you can separate the two. the 'market value' is directly affected by the desire to get hard-to-come-by items when somebody pays more than retail for the item on a second-hand market -- not least importantly being that geekhack is arguably the biggest second-hand market for these goods in the Americas and much of the rest of the english-speaking world.

:)

the way you explained it, you're treating that byproduct as somehow less significant than other factors of the market, and i think it's a lot more important.
you know when i'm trolling and when i'm not, let's not be glib :(

I don't actually remember how was the transition from that situation where Click Clack keys remained in stock for months to just now where people are making a lot of profit by reselling the keys and hoarding them and it seems everyone have to own them.

I guess at some point some people started to sell them overpriced for profit when they went out of stock after being there for months. I guess that's how everything started but I can't remember that.

That there is the conspiracy... they never sold out of stock... they were never all that popular, and yes they're STILL quite ugly...

What clack did do "clever guy" is go from selling crappy plastic to selling "RARE" crappy plastic..  Then, by creating a few LARGELY staged transactions established the current fascade..

What's that phrase "want in one hand, spit in the other, see which one fills up first"?

A troll thread is going to have about as much effect on CC secondhand prices as I would telling China to stop being communistic.

Just because you think they're ugly, doesn't mean everybody does.

I have a slightly off-topic question, if that's at all possible at this point. If offered, does anyone think Ripster would ever return to GH? Has such an offer ever been extended. When I joined, he gave me a ton of extremely knowledgeable answers to queries and was really one of the key bindings that held GH together for a time. Watching him self destruct like that was difficult to watch, but he really did bring it upon himself. Has enough time passed to heal wounds on both sides, or has that come and gone? Was he ever actually proven to have been to cause of r00twyrm?

don't lawyer this..

you've highlighted when i used "making" as "passive action" as in "creating the situation for"

when you posted clack didn't "make"   you meant an ACTIVELY forcing people to buy..

They are different.

I agree that english would be better if it were more precise, but we must make due.
