Wireless trackball!
« on: Mon, 20 January 2014, 07:55:41 »
It seems that we trackball users are such a minority that manufacturers are slow to innovate.

I mean where is a good wireless trackball? I've been waiting for years!

Currently using Kensington Slimblade which is awesome, but I wish it's wireless (bluetooth maybe)

I'm actually working on a DIY kit with bluetooth, battery and charging circuit but I need to source some parts first. Going to base it around the RN42 chipset, there's a similar board at the link below if you want more info.

It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Stating the obvious here, but I think there is very little interest wireless trackballs simply because they are more stationary than similar products such as mice. That is probably why manufacturers haven't put much effort into it.

Well currently I don't have an external monitor and I'm always moving around with my 13" Macbook Air
so there is a small market for it.

Hmm, a business idea? hehe

Unfortunately I'm not l33t enough to do some DIY hardware hacking.

Let us know how you go with this bueller, if you're so inclined you might want to mass-produce it on a small scale
with funding from Kickstarter?

I'm desperate for wireless Kensington Slimblade! ;)

I'm moving around with my 12" convertible thinkpad (X200T) and I have absolutely no problem carrying a wired logitech trackman with me.

There are some cheap wireless trackball floating around eBay/DX/... though.

There's the Sanwa, but I don't know of anyone who has bought one.

If you search Ebay for "sanwa (cordless, wireless) trackball" you'll find them. The funny thing is that they also make this in a corded model but I've not seen them on Ebay, only the cordless.

This is sort of off-topic, but why do all of the large trackballs (at least that I've seen) have that upward slope? Are they actually comfortable to use like that? It seems ergonomically undesirable and uncomfortable to use.
