Resoldering Kailh Hot Swap Sockets
« on: Sun, 21 October 2018, 12:05:49 »
So, I improperly aligned my plate with my hot swap board and ended up punching out two of my kailh sockets.  Now I've got a soldering project on my hands and need to re-attach them.

When I took apart the case today to check it out, it looks like there are pads on the PCB, and then the kailh socket gets soldered to the pads.  However, it looks to me like the pads actually came off?  Anybody have any idea how to fix this?

If the pads/contacts are off...Can I resolder them?

I'd love to know if anyone knows the answer to this. I have a hot swap PCB from 1up on which one of the Kailh hot swap sockets stopped working for no apparent reason and would be curious to know if there is a way to fix it.

That diode looks inline with the trace, just dab-over to that.

the other side looks like a via, just sand off the lacquer until you see shiny, and dab-over

Ah jeez this is my nightmare. I don't have a soldering iron... if any of my sockets come out I am seriously screwed.

Yeah I got a replacement, didn't attempt to fix.  It takes a lot of pressure to make it happen, so you should be good.  My replacement HSE has no issues.  I suggest putting in switches one at a time and making sure they are working w/ a word processor immediately, so you don't accidentally build up pressure by misaligning several in a row, which is what I believe I did.
