Some might call me an elitist when it comes to drum and bass and dubstep. I don't think any genre is bad - music is entirely a matter of opinion. However, it annoys me when people confuse brostep and dubstep, or when people call a song with no prominent drums drum and bass.

Brostep is so different to dubstep. Here are examples of proper dubstep. They're slower, calmer, deeper and stronger than brostep. They don't have any of the screeches, and any 'wob' noises are far less prominent. Slow(ish) drums and deep bass - that's true dubstep. :

More

Do you understand what I mean now? Again, I'm not saying brostep is bad. I'm just saying brostep is far different from dubstep.

I get what you're saying, I'm just not sure I buy it.  For example, here's an earlier mix by Skream, one of the progenitors of dubstep.  It's midway between some of the "brostep" stuff and the stuff you posted in tempo, but has a heavy bassline "wob" present throughout most of it.

Or stuff by El-B that shares some of the same traits:

Same with Oris Jay:

There are many more examples.  It just seems like the bass line wobble has become a more central part of the music and there are those who feel a "drop" is a necessary part of dubstep.

When I said the wobs were less prominent I didn't mean there were none at all. There's plenty of dubstep with wobs, but it's almost always less prominent than in brostep. The concentration is on the drums & sub-bass. Rutten & Ghost Rider are far slower and are fairly simple songs. They have few elements, whereas the songs you posted earlier are chaotic, and your attention is drawn mainly to the screechy noises etc. rather than the drums & sub-bass. I don't know how I can explain it more.. To me the difference between brostep and dubstep is crystal clear.

Nu Shooz, most people probably don't even remember them.

I'm more ashamed of what some of the artists eventually turned into than I am of some of the music I like.  A good example is Lars Ulrich. Watch Cliff Em' All", and then "Some Kind Of Monster" and try to convince me you didn't lose at least some respect for him, and possibly the band as well. When your highly respected heavy/speed/thrash metal band becomes little more than a reality TV show, you have to wonder where you went wrong.

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I am not ashamed of the music I listen to, but my girlfriend is kind of ashamed that I listen to Rhapsody of fire (and other groups similar). Well I don't care and listen to this type of music all the time!

One of their classic :

I'm not really "ashamed" of liking any of these, but they are some of the songs that people judge me sometimes for.  But screw em heh.

David Koz - I.G.Y

The Fifth Dimension - Let the sunshine in
(the second part is the best starting at 2:18, leeeeeeeet the sunnnnnnnnshineeeeeeeinnnnnnnnnnn!!)

Electric Six - Gay Bar
(the music video cracks me up)

And last but not least, Katy Perry...
My favorite song of hers...

Why are all mine girls? I don't know if I'm ashamed, or not...

Don't be ashamed bro  :p

Lately my kids have been playing Just Dance 4 on Wii and some of the songs have been running through my head. My 4 yr old loves "Rock Lobster" by the B-52's (puke) and that has been stuck in my head a lot as well as Carly Rae Jepsen. :(

You put something like that on stage "youtube stage" it's kind of offensive because there's no way that the author could've thought what they made was at all good or original.

So, when you give make something that is so obviously trite, it's offensive that you'd serve it up to the audience anyway.

Now this doesn't mean it's unoriginal to EVERYONE,  which means there are still components of the audience that are ok with the song, such as yourself.

But the h8ers are often louder.

Dubstep.

don't be ashamed

It's not the music I'm ashamed of really. It's the rave scene that follows.

oooo indeed
there's specific crowds associated with general subgenres, but 'raves' are pretty bad haha

What's wrong with a proper rave? Have to say they seem to be super rare these days... I've been clubbing since I was 18 or so, (and by that I don't mean going to the ****ty local club were they play a horrible dubstep version of a jay z song or something) and I've only been to one or two proper raves

But on topic there isn't anything I'm ashamed of listening too as my last.fm profile shows

I don't quite get raves, it's really loud, people smell bad because of all the sweating, I wasn't doing the drugs, so being painfully aware of what was happening, and it was just plain uncomfortable..

A rave, as I understand it is about being in and with a group of people all experiencing the music together in a positive way usually dancing around. If you need drugs to help you do that, that's fine but it's not a prerequisite. I can't really speak to the BO problem because the few raves I've been too were in the days when you could smoke inside and so all you could ever really smell was smoke. But if your self conscious and have problems letting go and just dancing around carefree, then you should invest in be wonderful invention that is alcohol :)

I can understand being under-the-influence and really enjoying Pretty much anything, including raves.

Why would you even go to a club if you wernt drinking?

I don't think it's absolutely necessary to drink, but most of the times sure, this was just One of the times that I did not.

I don't see how you could've gotten that from my posts,

Less of course, you were thinking of all the times YOU yourself went to children's play areas and, just watched.

People who go to clubs and don't drink are the same kinds of people who go to children's play areas to without children.
There is no good reason (unless you work there ofc) to go a club sober as your only ever going to have a bad time. If I'm not able to drink I wouldn't dream of going to a club because it would be a waste of money and time...

Though I do like ham sandwiches and pickles, damnit I'm just posting things I like to think about again
