whichever one gives u higher framerate ofc

I'm trying to decide which one gives a more clear image of the enemy..

but perhaps the situations where that helps are too rare to justify the lower framerate.

what's most important besides gun control is being able to control brightness. the rest is preference and not as relevant

brightness and contrast and digital vibrance (I've heard)..

but I'm on ATI, so I don't have digital vibrance setting..

You can do the same thing on ATI cards thankfully enough.

AMD has a saturation option that works the same as Nvidias digital vibrance.

Seems like digital vibrance isn't the same as saturation on ATI cards.

Vibrance does not overblow the already saturated colors..

Whereas on ATI, if you crank the saturation it influences ALL of the colors..

Depends on your setup, honestly. Refresh rate, average fps, how often it dips and how low, etc.

There are instances where you should cap it under the default, some instances when you should cap it over the default, but exactly zero instances where you should set it to 0.

Just to clarify, instead of setting it to 0 set it to 999. Anything over that and the engine starts to lag terribly. This basically only every happens in kz/surf maps, but also during server loading which can cause lag spikes joining servers.

I dont' have a 144hz monitor,

But from what I can tell Capping frames lowers minimum fps as well.

Which is why I'm unsure what the setting should be..

I was under the impression you cap to 144 fps when u play on a 144hz monitor

This is widely circulated information, but it's incorrect for a couple of reasons.

For one, no one has perfected syncing refresh rate with FPS yet. So if you go 1:1 refresh:fps, the frames aren't synced and you can still end up with tearing and other issues. So you always want to add some frames to that equation, but I would only even roughly use this concept in single player games. If you can get enough FPS, you actually should go for double your refresh rate + some buffer frames.

The other reason is that your FPS is directly related to your input lag as well. So the higher the FPS, the more quickly movements register on your screen. Meaning that not only will your aim be more precise, but you will see enemy player movement earlier. We're talking about differences under 20ms, but I can personally notice an input lag difference of ~10ms the last time I tested it.

Without seeing the actual numbers, the images alone are a bit hard to decipher.

That said, some people do report an increase in microstutter with fps caps. I haven't personally experienced this, but it's a relatively common complaint with any game using the Source engine.

Ok these images should be more clear..

I'm not sure if the Fluctuation in the Capped Graph constitutes micro-stutter..

Capped 145FPS

139423-0

Capped   Fps max 999

139429-1

Uncapped   Fps max 0

139431-2

Did you have frametimes checked when you ran these? I'd like to see those plots if you have them.

If not, mind running them again and uploading the frametime and fps charts for runs? Will give a much more complete picture.

Just from looking at what you posted, the 999 and 0 runs are close enough that the variance is almost assuredly the result of non-repeatable test conditions.

145 is definitely too low of a cap for you, though. That's well below your 1% and 0.1% rates on the other two runs, try 200-300 and see how it looks with the frametimes as well.

Realistically, for CS you want a minimum of 200fps. Anything below that is going to effect your input lag. That's the unofficial 'standard' competitive players have come to.

Looked into Frame times...

It would seem that  Uncap 0 vs Capped 350 has a difference of around 1ms for me..

So essentially, regardless of what I cap it to.. I get wider fluctuation and higher response time with the Cap.

Uncapped fps max 0

Capped fps max 350

139468-1

Ya, it definitely appears like the caps are having a negative effect on your frametime spikes and FPS.

Really not sure how to explain that, but it's present. That said, a 1-2ms difference is well below noticeable levels so as long as 999 isn't giving you the same spikes seen in the 350 plot I would personally stick with that. But it's up to you.

Again here, the number discrepancies themselves could easily just be due to the fact there is no benchmark for CSGO and so you are never going to be able to repeat the same exact video test twice. There will always be fluctuations.

But the number of spikes is the issue here, and it certainly seems to be related to the fps_max.

I wonder, have you tried limiting FPS through other means? Something like Nvidia Inspector or MSI Afterburner? I wonder if it would have the same results or if this is something buggy in the engine code.

Is anyone playing csgo with a 4.7, 4.8 ghz using an intel 6700k

Are you getting consistently ~500 fps ?

I am considering getting into z170, because my 4790 and both 3xxx are doing other things.. I only have a 2600 and 2500 for games.. and they're stuck at ~350fps
