How Important is matching?
« on: Fri, 02 March 2018, 15:44:38 »
I am still on the fence with the Espectro keyboard and what color to get. I am right now caught between the following combo's

Black case Cyan Plate
Cyan Case Cyan Plate
Gunmetal case Cyan Plate

I am just wondering what people's opinion's are with key cap's matching case color.  How important is it?

This is like the definition of personal preference.

But I'm partial to black keyboards with black on white/gray keycaps.

Don't bother spending the money if you're not going to make it look good.

While personal preference, if you can't get it close enough, I would go for a different color entirely as it can stick out like a sore thumb.

There are two options.  Either you can plan the build for a single keyset with an out-there colourway and as Leslieann said - get it right.  This makes you less likely to jump on a new keyset so can save your wallet in the future but if you really like a new keyset you need a new board, which costs lots more.  Also if your tastes change you're stuck with it.

Alternately you can go for a case in a neutral colour which looks good with pretty much anything (black, grey, silver, dark blue...) then you can swap the key caps to give a different look/feel whenever you like.  The temptation of new keysets can be harder to resist, but at least you don't need a new board so it's cheaper.  Easier to sell on too should the need arise.

I don't know your financial situation or whether you have the 'collector gene' so can't offer any advice which way you should go, but I would chose the neutral board.  I don't think the cyan plate really counts as you usually can't see much of it.  Unless you're thinking white backlight...
