What are you watching? The thread about what you're watching.
« on: Fri, 05 February 2016, 23:26:10 »
There are many "What are you...?" threads, but I don't think I've seen one about what's currently got you hooked to the tube (or flat screen). Can be any show, film, cartoon, anime, miniseries, etc.

I have a short attention span these days, so stuff like movies even takes a few sittings to finish.

Currently I'm rewatching Seven Samurai, this time on Blu-ray.

The last time I saw this was 15 years ago. Before that, I didn't know what distinguished a good film from a bad one. I thought all movies were just movies. This changed everything.
I suddenly realized what defined a "good" movie, and what defined amazing acting.

Also rewatching Tales from the Crypt. Don't know why I was watching that when I was five or six way back when.

PS
No spoilers, please. :)

I have two shows I'm watching at any given time. One is my "me" show that I watch on my own. Until tonight it was One Punch Man. Now I need another show. :/

The other is my "us" show, and I stream it to my GF through Skype since she doesn't have Netflix. We're watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars right now. Man that show is good.

Hence the spreadsheet! :)) I need to update it tomorrow, then I'll share it. During college I was watching 20+ shows on the air, but it has since settled down and I'm working through my backlog of shows that have already aired.

This is why I love Plex.  It tracks it for me.  Personal collection is outrageous.  And this is post-scrub and rebuild.  I still have a TON of movies on my old JBOD array that I haven't had time to move yet.

Arrested development.

Today's film list:
* Rango
* Dallas buyers club
* True grit
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Life Itself, the Roger Ebert documentary.

That was a good one.

My teenage kids have gotten me into their 3 faves: Big Bang Theory, Arrow, and Flash.

All were better before and are now spiraling off in directions that make me less interested.

Just finished binge watching "Making a Murderer" over the last 2 days.  Very good.  I am also working my way through "One Piece" at 1-2 episodes a day with a couple 3-4 episode days when I have the time.  Weekly show with the wifey is "Biggest Looser".

What a frightening thing. It is hard to believe that it could happen in modern America. "The Authorities" must be squirming ......

I recently had a marathon of the Die Hard series. 1 and 2 were great, 3 was okay, 4 and 5 were disgraces to the series.

I'm midway through my 4th rewatch of The Fast & Furious or whatever variation of the name it is.  Bad movies, bad acting, but I love them.

2 and 3 were definitely close, but I feel like 3 took away the magic part of being stuck in the same place as the baddies and outnumbered.

The new season of X Files is not so great. You'd get a similar experience sitting next to some dude in a tinfoil hat on the bus and letting him ramble for 40 minutes. That's what these new episodes feel like, just tiring and tedious. the third episode (of the 3 I've seen) is by far the best one. Episodes 1 and 2 are lame, especially episode 2 which was just flat out bad.

The best thing I've watched recently is With Bob And Dave on Netflix. One of the funniest and creative sketch comedy programs in many years. Would recommend.

And in terms of movies: I recently saw The Little Prince. What an absolutely lovely and endearing film! I cannot believe this one flew under the radar like this, it's better than most recent Pixar films. If you have the time and want to watch something beautiful and wonderful go see The Little Prince.
