Do people actually enjoy gasket mounted keyboards?
« on: Thu, 01 August 2019, 08:25:56 »
I just don't seem to enjoy typing on gasket mounted keyboards! I feel like there's TOO much flex, and the feel of the actual switches are lost. I've been experimenting with the plate being mounted to the bottom half of the case using a washer to keep it slightly elevated and it feels much better. Another thing I've noticed is that if you use just four screws to hold the entire case + pcb + plate together, the vibrations are reduced, and you get more of that "thock" noise that everyone seems to like, but without too much flex. Would any of you guys buy a premium keyboard that ISN'T gasket mounted?

There's no inherent good or bad, like or don't like.

People create their own narratives as they go along.

You can decide to like or dislike anything through volition.

This is the case, because none of these factors affect performance.

Its preference, you dont like flex and like more stuff and someone else prefers more flex.

I had no ideia what they were, just googled around around to see what they are.
No way i would enjoy one, i like my keyboards as stiff as possible.

So, the gaskets are predominantly for flex and not for sound-dampening, huh?

I knew there were keyboards that had both flexible plates and gaskets, but that they were linked passed me by.

I mean it's really going to depend on how stiff the rubber in the gasket is and how tightly things are held in place.  I would imagine that you could still have some pretty stiff-feeling gasket mounts out there, but I haven't yet had the opportunity to type on a whole lot of them.  They're still a fairly new trend...
