Inlikeflynn, this one's for you. You thought I'd forget, but I forget nothing!! :P

Flynn said we should start a thread where we show off band merch/shirts so here it is. Post up your shirts/shorts/hats/bootyshorts kids. Flynn, I better see some vintage Maiden shirts!

Wore that last night to meet up with Moose and see Kvelertak, Black Tusk, and the Cancer Bats.

Bought that 2 weeks ago when I saw them with the Acacia Strain.

Both The Viking and Born Low are local bands from near my hometown. And I was wearing my Born Low shirt under my button up today 'cause I don't like undershirts.

Anyone else got some sweet merch? Let's see it :D

Hmm I'll have to dig up my old maiden shirt I guess. Picked it up at a show in Toronto years ago. Went with Halverson and a few other friends. Good memories. Great music.

I wore my black sabbath shirt today. The shirt is really old, faded and has holes in the arm pits, but it's my favorite shirt!

I've always felt left out, when it came to heavy metal..   I suppose I haven't taken enough drugs or experienced enough -torment- of the soul, to understand it..

I know you guys Heavy Metal sounds good to you.. I believe you..

Can you describe why it sounds good, what image / message / emotion is surfaced when you're listening..

I listened to Slayer - Angel of Death, after reading the whole wiki article on Heavy Metal...

For me..  the experience was

image:dead red/black things
message: something, now kill it
emotion: sense of urgency (due mostly to the high bpm)

Is that similar to what you guys feel when you listen to this stuff?

Mostly I just wanna run in a circle in a crowded room. Or jump off a stage. Or jump onto a stage then jump into a crowd. Or jump on someone's shoulders and scream lyrics at the stage.

It made me laugh that you looked it up on Wiki first. If you like it, listen to more of it. If you don't, listen to something else. Easy.

I bought a Revocation shirt when I went to the Revocation, Whitechapel, and Rivers of Nihil shirt Monday. I'll have to post that soon. And hwood34, I find it hard to believe Protest the Hero had a shirt with a design I liked :P. I haven't bought anything from them because all their designs were so weird to me. Like most of Between the Buried and Me's stuff.

Yeah, their shirts are somewhat... nonstandard. But I guess Dan Mumford's art is an acquired taste :p

I am always interested in understanding why someone do what they do, like what they like.

This running in circles, jumping into the crowd, and screaming lyrics..

This would be a rather complicated set of motions to orchestrate..

-------- Is ^^^^ that something you typically want to do, or a consequence of the music moving you into the mooood to do so...

-------------- as in.. do you have other reasons that you'd normally want to run in circles and jump into a crowd and scream...   or is it the music which carry you towards the seemingly-manic state of mind...

When I listened to the heavy metal, I felt that in order to (take it in)  focus on the music,  due to the complexity and quick transitions, it was not possible to think about anything else...

so.. that i would describe as perhaps a thorough-escape from my own immediate conscious..

I feel like heavy metal can be a vent some times, it helps get my anger out.

In response to the complexity-question, yes - some of it requires more attention-to-detail but I think that after listening to it for a long time you'll get used to it and it'll come naturally.

but there are also a lot of genres, sub-genres and sub-sub-genres. Some more calm others even more aggressive.

Sometimes you just gotta mosh man.  It's the music. And figuring out the complexities gets easier like Frenir said. Also, it's not that hard to coordinate it all.
