PM2.5 to Cigarettes [Pollution Calculator]
« on: Sun, 18 June 2023, 20:33:40 »
Very cool that you can download Historical AQI database from AQICN.org as CSV

This means you can calculate for example, across 10 years, how many cigarettes Equivalent you've smoked as the result of Air pollution (pm2.5 concentration).

22ug/m^3 a day is equivalent to 1 cigarette worth of overall Life expectancy health risk.

The data is in AQI, so you convert it back to ug/m^3, and divide by 22.

For example: counting from 2014:

New Delhi, India,  ___ 13208 cigs, 660 packs, 4.4 cigs/day

Bakersfield, California, 2238 cigs, 112 packs, 0.65 cigs/day

New York City, ______ 1125 cigs, 56 packs, 0.35 cigs/day

Example Xlsx included:

You can copy Function from Column H onward to any csv data downloaded from AQICN.org

If value returns #value, you need to delete empty rows at end of data
If value returns div/0, you need to remove OR adjust AQI readings above 500, USA AQI calculation only goes up to 500.

Excuse the messy use of if statements, Tp4 not xpurt @ the xcel.

Interesting, so at least we know china didn't lie about improving air quality in beijing,

Calculating the cigarettes smoked per year, clearly indicates a strong improvement

Bakersfield and NYC

You can see from 2019, covid reduced PM, then sharp rebound during reopening.

So, would breathing through an unlit cigarette act as a decent filter?
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

okokok, something Fisshy going on in HOTAN... official sensors have been turned off since June 2020.

Bad airquality is mainly due to frequent dust storms, but industrial buildup is certainly an issue as well.

This reads like a conspiracy... similar to how saudi arabia is never too hot for outdoor work, manipulation of weather reports to enforce unsafe slave working conditions.

Observation:

So it seems AQI can still be great while the sky goes grey,  it seems smoke has a ground clearance attribute. It can be high up and block sky, without percolating in high pm2.5 at ground level.

Holy Heck..

Anything around and Above 500, means you are smoking 1 cigarette per hour.

Airquality getting so bad,  the Airgov website is flooded...  Super slow, sometimes won't even load.

1/3 of the USA population ~120million people are under Air Quality Alert today.

Handy, quick conversion table.

For whatever reason, AQI isn't a straight line with PM2.5, which is why it looks crooked when calculating Cigarettes smoked Per day.

Download the xlsx in attachments below.

Interesting Equivalences:

3 People smoking in a typical sized restaurant = approx 600 pm2.5 count.

5 People smoking = 1200

20 People smoking = 5000

So..... If you think about why Boomers who grew up in "The Haze", are kinda messed up, bad decision makers, seemingly brain damaged.

Well...... /Pollution Perspective.
