What is this new samsung techno is it good?

they're fine.. the 840 evo is the only problematic ssd. everything else works fine.  no real advantage or disadvantage.

I use my SSD for torrents, because my harddrives spin down..  so.. I got the 850 pro for that reason, as I have a large amount of writes..  but overall, if you're not torrenting to the SSD, it doesn't make a difference in terms of slc/mlc/tlc

vnand just means verticle stacking of the TLC used in the more budget friendly Evo series.

The Pro series uses MLC, which doubles the area of nand required to produce the same capacity, which is why it's more durable.

The 3D implementation allows the manufacturing to really increase its efficiency in costs savings. When it comes down to the semiconductor business, its all about fitting the most stuff into the least amount of space, and 3D nand is one of these innovations to do so.

I don't recommend anyone buy an SSD today, if you already have one as boot drive.


Xpoint is going to be a big shakeup..  hang on and it'll pay off..

I had an old OCZ Vertex SSD,  one of the drives notorious for controller failures, it lasted me about 6 years and 20 TB's of lifetime writes but it got to the point where i was only getting 150 MB read's / writes's. And my Hitachi Ultra star HDD's can almost do better than that.  So i ended up getting a 250 GB 850 EVO for $70 and its made a huge difference. 

the 3D Vnand basically just means you can fit more memory cell's on each piece of silicone by stacking them vertically while still maintaining good write endurance and speed while making the manufacturing process much cheaper, the PCB in the 850 is only a little bigger than 1/4 of the case, its kind of cute. It's rated for 30 ish GB's of writes per day for 5 years which doesnt sound that great but it's really quite a bit, installing windows and updates only put about 15 GB's of writes on the drive. Definitely not good for a drive thats going to be written to constantly though. My old vertex is probably going to be taking the place of my OS drive in my freeNAS server.
