Is my RAM bootleg?
« on: Tue, 14 February 2023, 20:54:38 »
Just upgraded to 32Gb from 16Gb.
Specs should read: DR3-2133 CL9-11-11 1.60V
                            2133MHz PC3-17000

But this is what I'm getting, even after adjusting the settings in BIOS:
296487-0

My mobo can support 2060, which is fine for 2133MHz, but it's reading the lowest frequency only.
plus 2 of the sticks seem to be running much slower. Did I get ripped off here?

Did you set the XMP in the BIOS?

you actually didn't get ripped of because ddr stands for double data rate so the real clock is always half of the advertised speed MT/s (advertised speed is in mt/s) is twice the real clock (mhz).

Also the table showing the timings does not represent each stick, it represents the 2 JEDEC spec profiles & 2 XMP profiles your sticks have.

yeah, there's literally no way to change that. I think my mobo can only run 2 in XMP since these sticks are from 2 different sets (both same brand and model, but came in 2 sets of 8Gb x2). For XMP the timings need to be exact on all sticks. I adjusted the BCLK settings to 100, which allowed me to set them at 2133 profile but 2 are still under performing. Unless it's my mobo(ASUS P8P67 REV 3.1) that is restricting them. Regardless I'm still getting 32Gb registered.

This is what I am dealing with now, which is still wrong but idk if this can be fixed. Maybe setting the timing manually for sticks #3 and 4? idk enough about this stuff.

sandybridge usually doesn't like doing 2133mhz or 2400mhz when overclocked.

you have to have very well tuned late ddr3 to get 2400mhz.

cpu core speed is king though,  ram speed makes minimal difference 1866 vs 2400.

enabling xmp should let you run highest, but there's also Manual , which will allow you to change the frequency.

well the reason you have problem is definitely a mismatched ram for ddr4 its fine to mismatch ram but for ddr3 its not fine
