I wish I was playing POE2, my entire friends list is currently enjoying it.

Yeah, looks like its even better than Diablo

I cannot bring myself to pay $$ for something that will be free to play soon. Paying to test a game is absurd to me.

Game Awards continue to show how useless they are by making an advertisement demo that one-for-one rips off Mario, GOTY.
I have zero desire or intent to play anything announced.
I was surprised to hear about Okami and Onimusha sequels, but I don't care enough to want to actually play them some 20 years after they were relevant in my life.

Sure would've loved to see anything fresh and original. Literally just one fresh IP and concept. Looks like 2025 will just be more of the same crap being pumped out as this year.
Couldn't care less.

Went under Tp's radar.

Forged in Shadow Torch, FIST,

Runs great, unreal engine, capped at 200fps like Doom 2016. Turn on enhanced sync/ fast sync to reduce input lag.

Synopsis,  Rabbit + Aug-suit + Kungfu + Metroidvania. Mechanically, it plays more like MegamanX4

Quit out on Cyberpunk. Stuck with it for 10 hours, but it just didn't hook me. Too much tech and tough guys. Didn't like the sterile urban environment. I also felt like the game kept me on a leash even after 10 hours, with all the cutscenes. I'm moving on.

I was finally able to gift my son a graphics card for his PC (4060) because Christmas came early. We started playing Tiny Tina's Wonderland together. So far, it's been a blast.

@TP4, my kid is using an old 1920x1080 75hz IPS display. Works well enough, but the kiddo wants an high refresh monitor, which I understand, since he is generating many more frames in his favorite titles than the monitor can display. I very much like my ultrawide monitor and wanted to know your thoughts on 2560x1080p for esports and casual gaming. He has very little interest in single player/cinematic games. I know his 4060 would struggle at 1440p and high (120hz-144hz) refresh. I see that that the 1080 ultrawide has ~33 more pixels than regular 1080p, but 1440p has +78% more pixels, which is why 1440p is out of the question. If my son is shooting for 120hz+ when playing Fortnite and is willing to scale down the visuals to get that, is 2560 x 1080 a realistic resolution. He really enjoys the customization/flexibility that PC gaming offers that console can't.

My real concern is playing other games and how taxing those extra pixels would be. He really enjoyed my 1440p ultrawide, but even now I realize that 1440p ultrawide/High refresh will require a significant investment when my 3080 starts showing its age. My kid will be a teen shortly and be able to enter the workforce soon to afford his own gear so this is all solutions for now, knowing in 2-3 years parts will be replaced.

2560 x 1080 = 2.76 million pixels
1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600 pixels
2560 x 1440 = 3.7 million pixels

/Gasp...

Sending your kiddo into the workforce, that is what poor people do, my god.. Your kid needs SAT prep classes everyday for a minimum of 3 hours after school, then foreign language tutors on the weekend + Piano + Painting + Badminton.

How do you expect him to join the Corpo-Elites if he doesn't hang out with them his entire childhood, to suffer through the indignity of academic cramming.  How-Else will he understand the fiendish pace of the illustrious corporate rat race, how can he compete in a Classist-dystopia without understanding the PAIN which is then only momentarily quenched with copious liquor and prostitutes.

Nhey, your brand of parenting could well doom the child to life long mediocrity and genuine happiness. What a terrible father you are.

Not convinced Ray Tracing is used effectively here.

Without telling, can we even make a value judgement here, which one looks better?

If I really, really look at the images, I think the colors pop and are less washed out on the lower image, but I had to do a few back and forths. Very little difference.

The first picture is Ray traced.  :p

The Tell, is the grainy specular reflections. They actually cast very few rays to create these scenes because even 4090 is incredibly weak. So they go through a thick denoise step to actually produce the final output,  the problem is, no matter what, it comes out grainy.

Withering Rooms is a very good game. It's a 2-D Silent Hill x Dark Souls type of game where you play as an Alice facsimile(of Wonderland fame), going through a creepy mansion and killing/avoiding creatures trying to escape. I played through the demo 3x already.
Hopefully someone gets it for me as a Christmas gift, but I plan to buy it regardless.

The problem with ace combat, is 90% of the time, you're doing loops hoping to catch a few pixels at the corner of the screen.  It's about as fun as chasing a fruit fly around the room.

I still haven't tried either of those.
Is first one better than new,s econd one?
I was going to play one, but now when 2nd part was released I thought I should maybe skip first and go with second.
If graphics, mechanics etc are better, no point touching first one, unless it is really good experience.

Frost punk 1 is all about the machine,  you get alot of dials and buttons.

Frost punk 2, is macro, not like 1 at all, you don't get the base building experience.

Really? No base build? I like those kind of mechanics, like Settlers, build the base and then play...

I tried the demo for Goodbye Seoul. It's a beautifully-pixelated ode to the puzzle platformers from the '90s (Flashback, Out of this World). Probably won't be as good as Inside, but color me impressed.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.

It's got AAA Soul.

Gpu struggles to run it with lots of supersampling, which it needs as the textures are mostly flat and filled with line-art. Without SSAA, you get a lot of crawling textures at a distance. 7900xtx can do 7680x4320 + 4xSSAA, average ~130-150fps.

Maybe you can say the crawling reminds us of the old Jetset where old hardware had the same problems. Mmm.. eitherway, the graphics -is charming.

Oh, now I will have to try it :)

Never played FF, but I remember like FF7 came out and my friend was playing it on a console - I felt like it must have been fun.
Click! 30 years later, I feel like I can play jRPG now :)

The average jrpg might not be palatable to an adult, depending on how much patience you have.

Sea of Stars is good because it's not grindy, and it doesn't impose an overly complicated system to maximize a number in a convoluted/ ultimately pointless way. Keeping things bite-size.

Oh, so yes, that sounds good then. Just to enjoy the adventure, nice pixelised graphics and good story. Not too grindy is perfect.

Subtle use of dynamic lighting really makes it pop.

This engine forces 60fps w vsync off, will run high frame rate with vsync on.  I guess they do this because they don't want people's GPU to go krrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiihhhhhhhh.

Coil whine has gotten really bad these days with cheaper high wattage power supplies. They don't tune the regulator frequencies well, only the big companies have the resources to mess with that. So the budget psu caused coil whine becomes really loud.

It's supposed to work with steam remote play. But I'm not sure how all that works, because I've never used it.

Tried a CRT filter, doesn't look good. Seems it's tricky to get the mask right. The game renders in an odd resolution natively, probably deliberately to soften the pixels after upscaling to typical monitor's native res.

Normally with the masks, you want to line them up in integer ratios consistent with the native resolution of the monitor AND the game itself, failure to do so leads to alot of color fringing which is quite distracting.

Overall, the Tp4 beliefs this type of pixel art is NOT traditional and already shopped for Digital displays. It's much higher res and contrast adapted for integer pixel presentation.

This game runs so well. No crashes, the only minor issue is you get lost here/ there because the textures are so flat. But this also happened in the old jetset radio as well.
