Lazer Type (competitive multiplayer typing game)
« on: Thu, 11 May 2017, 09:33:28 »
I was listening to a podcast about an upcoming throwingback 90's FPS called Dusk. Sort of a mashup of Blood and the original Quake.

Towards the end they mentioned the other projects they're working on and that in their opinion there hadn't been a good typing game since the original Typing of the Dead. The podcast was 6 months old and I don't see a lot of information on the net about it yet but my interest was definitely piqued. I think you shoot projectiles at other players and you've got to defend by typing and launching new words at them. There a bit of it shown in this trailer 50 seconds in.

imho, typeracer.com wins, and leaves little to be desired (other than needing a way to block cheaters).  If you really want a carrot for increasing your typing speed, just hang out on a busy IRC channel. ;-)

Welcome to geekhack -- where we like to type -- but don't care so much about reading.

Laser Type? Sounds legit.

What's the set bonus for playing Laser Type on a GMK Laser-equipped board?

The issue with Gaming right now isn't the fact that we can't build better games or --innovate--

It's merely that we've already reached the pinnacle of what HUMANS are capable of PLAYING..

If you can't make a game any harder or more complex,   as it would not appeal to the general audience,     Then in the majority of development cases,  you're left with simply repainting a skin for an old game..

You are talking out of your ass. Develop a game, then come in with opinions like that.

Just because most devs rehash mechanics with little new iteration, does not in any way shape or form mean there are no devs creating new engines, platforms, and mechanics that have not been seen before.
