(Solved) Weird Issue when alt tabbing
« on: Mon, 22 May 2017, 18:54:25 »
Greetings,
I've come here with a simple yet annoying dilemma. I've built a new system recently and everything is all well and good except for one glaringly annoying thing. Whenever I alt tab out of a game my keyboard will disconnect and reconnect. This happens in both full screen and windowed full screen. This happens with any game I have. Both Steam games and non Steam games. Also notice this when first booting up the PC and shutting down it will do this. I've done some research but couldn't find anything specific to my problem except for this article: http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-fix-annoying-windows-usb-problem.htm which explained it may be the power saving options. I went and changed the settings thinking I had found my issue and... nope still doing it :( I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me solve this issue. Thanks!

The Keyboard I'm using is the Vortex Pok3r and I'll also note I have a Razer Naga 2014 plugged in and a Zowie FK1+. The Naga is partially detected as a second keyboard but that's never caused me any issues before on my previous systems. Also both my keyboard and mice are plugged into the USB 2 ports on the motherboard instead of the USB 3. I've tried both didn't make a difference in this issue

If it helps computer specs are:
Ryzen 1600X
Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero
Radeon 280X
16GB G.Skill Flare X @ 3200mhz
Samsung 960 EVO M.2
Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit (Yes I actually do have an enterprise SKU)

Whenever I change over from a full screen application it makes the USB device disconnect and reconnect sounds and also the LED's on my keyboard go out then turn back on. This only occurs when alt tabbing from a full screen application or on boot and shutdown.

Why does this seem like it could be a video driver related issue? That's odd. Are all your drivers up to date?

I'm pretty sure it's not an issue with my video card drivers. I'm currently using driver version 17.5.2 which is the latest from AMD. The biggest reason I don't think it's a video driver issue is the fact my keyboard actually powers off and then back on (with the accompanying disconnect and reconnect sounds) when alt tabbing out of a full screen application. The actual transition on screen while alt tabbing is seamless and fine.

Your link in the OP is one place to find a setting for USB power management. Another place to check is in Device Manager, under "Universal Serial Bus controllers". Go through that list and look at each tab you find labeled "Power Management". Make sure "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked everywhere you find it.

put it in High performance mode, and turn off pcie power down.

It was in high performance mode (and still currently is) but for some reason it kept several settings from the balanced power mode :/

Again thanks for the help guys I'm going through my device manager and double checking everything.
