Say something nice about a geekhacker thread
« on: Tue, 13 November 2012, 13:08:20 »
Too much negativity lately. Too much bickering also.

Let's be a little positive in this thread and say something nice about each other.

The only twist is you have to also say something nice about a person you don't see eye to eye with. I'll start.

Reaper - awesome dude!

Rag - runs very organized group buys without any hassles.

And go!
No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.

In general people here have been really nice,

I've done business with i3oilermaker several times and he's been pretty awesome.

komar007 has put stupid amounts of effort into the GH60, and let me join the prototype group even though I'm absolutely convinced I'm going to completely screw up and brick my prototype board. He deserves a giant round of applause for everything he's done on that project.

Meeba gets a thumbs up too, but mostly because he introduced me to geekhack and brought me back after the rollback (my wallet hates him though).

TheProfosist. We both got a Kmac Le from Sherryton when he had them for sale and he agreed to build mine as I've never done any soldering before. He was extremely thorough and dedicated to make sure we got everything we needed to build it. Stickers, lube plate, diodes, leds, you name it. He fronted a lot of his own money in good faith so we could save on shipping costs by purchasing things together. He's got a thread going where he's showing the progress of getting our boards built. I have got a tremendous amount of respect for him. He is a true keyboard enthusiast and a stand up guy.

Despite our differences in opinion, ethnicity, sex, social status, etc.

Everybody I've met in my time at geekhack (Even Ripster, bless his angry heart) seemed to, at their core, be a generally good person, who didn't mind helping out another person, and wouldn't tell me to GTFO back when I didn't understand that people weren't swearing when they said BS board, and didn't know the differences between this keyboard and that besides "This one clicks"

Most all GHers have a pinch of humour and are easy to talk to. The enviroment is mostly lax, which the occasional arguement or dispute, and it's kept me coming back.

TL;DR

YOU are my favorite geekhacker.

Tjcaustin and esoomenona are a highly entertaining combo to read (even though they can be tough for me to understand!)
MMB does sick brocaps, very inspiring (especially the ghostotype)
Clib and DangWang are helpful fella
Demik and sth are sooo fresh, sth with the coolest avatar out there and Demik with his "CHOO CHOO mother****ers" (priceless image for a train of hate, this made my day tbh!)

Probably some other nice dudes I don't know enough yet

And too many others to name! Specially every vendor on here I have ever dealt with, they make you feel like a person, not just another customer.

edit-Can't really say I've gotten into any kerfuffles with anyone.....so I'll say demik...for making that a rule in this great thread! But he is definitely a wizbro from the greater beyond.

I have had a dozen transactions with Geekhackers and all turned out perfectly.

I have engaged in private discussions with many of them that were helpful and rewarding.

My real admiration goes to the moderators, who are completely unpaid, and also to people who run Group Buys, because even if they make a few dollars, the hourly rate can't be very high, and we presume that they give a cut back to the community.

Now if somebody would just run some custom caps for IBM Model M/Fs ......

And lastly, although Ripster was an insufferable @sshole, his wikis provided me with a wealth of knowledge and understanding about keyboards that I doubt that I could have gotten elsewhere, in years of digging around, who knows where.

In general this is one of the friendliest and most supportive forums I have ever seen.

Everyone has their off days, especially when overcharging on GBs happens, or there is a CC sale - I can overlook that.

But when a member is in need, GHers rally around!  It almost brings a tear to the eye to see so much positive response to sale threads for a member down on his/her luck.

This is a great community :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Since I have only been here for awhile, and not yet familiar to most of you yet :)

MMB is a real nice person :) helping me assemble my keyboard although his plate is overflowing as I can tell  ;)

CLiB is nice and friendly, really trusting/honest guy, was so touched when he lent me abit of $$ when I just joined for 2 days or so! (Really, thank you so much, you made me have hope in humanity again :D )

The_Beast is warm & friendly too, puts in dedication into his masterpieces of wrist-rests hahaha (doesnt mind chatting off-topic) :))

I know theres still alot more people to mention but I can summarise them into: friendly and warm

I dont know what to say, this forum is just.............. different from most of the other forums anywhere, where it just turns into a big marketplace of some sorts where you find every seller dubious.

I thank GH for this experience, seriously.

Not sure. I don't hold grudges, so I've just been complimenting people.
Dan...awesome food dude, fun to meet at the Chicago meetup. Glad to see he is soldering himself, but I wanted to put together his boards... :( All around a solid GH'er.

That sth guy is pretty cool in my book. Good sparing partner on the forums in one thread, gives me helpful information in another. I heard him smack a drum wicked good with my own ears.

DanGWanG is pretty dope

Batmann does great mock ups

and generally everyone else I've encountered or dealt with has been cool.

inlikeflynn sold me my first CC for real cheap so thanks to him for popping my cherry.

- leesofi - Out of sheer niceness, helped me and continues to help me understand things on KBD and chat daily.  Maybe I help him practice English =)
- SmallFry - Young Blood Genius who continues to stay neutral despite all the bickering bull****.  That takes patience and I respect that
- dirge - Wish he was on GH more!  Great person to talk logic with
- Sifo - Canadian bro from the North!  One of my only blog subscribers =)
- sth - the Devil's Advocate!

MissMurd3r84 - you're ok, for an Aussie... ;)

:)) :)) Cheers. You're okay, too.

No one really comes to mind that annoys me enough for me to have a list of people I hate.. yet :P, so listing those I like or saying something nice would take too long.

I've enjoyed this forum all the time I have been on it, it's a helpful forum with a diverse range of people on it. I've spoken to some cool people on the forums and some in IRC, which more people should talk in
KBC Poker - Red switches. Noppoo Choc Mini - Black switches. Leopold FC700R (White) - Blue switches. Ducky YOTD - Brown switches. Razer BW - Blue switches and rusted.

Halverson - For introducing me to GH and all of you great people and for the Black Cosmic NIQMOD B-Day Gift!! Plus all the saved shipping costs!! and also for his beard as well..
DanGWanG - Never talked to him much but for loving tree and not being afraid to express it with great Avatars!

well this thread makes me feel good ... time to smoke a little tree myself!  CHEERS!!

... and he comes up with this?  lol
