Slice of life isn't 'gay' per se

And do they actually jerk it on screen like shinji?

And how many of you are excited for the summer season?

I'm looking out for aldnoah.zero, Akame ga kill, Zankyou no terror, and glasslip. Sao II for the nostalgia and entertainment factor; maybe it'll surprise me

any good finished animes you'd rec so far into June?
Show Image

Finished as in story complete or finished as in done for the season?

Recent animes (fall 2013 -summer 2014) that I'd recommend:
- Attack on Titan (a bit overhyped, but it's honestly great)
- No game No life (there needs to be a season 2; very deserving of being mentioned for anime of the season, alongside ping pong)
- Knights of Sidonia (I haven't watched it, but I've heard if you can get used to the cgi, it's quite the total package)

Random anime that I'd recommend in no order whatsoever:

- code geass
- mahou shoujo madoka magica
- psycho-pass
- fate/zero
- kokoro connect
- neon genesis evangelion + End of evangelion + Rebuild
- Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
- Durarara!!

haha... finished as in I can DL the whole thing..
Show Image

Then yeah those titles should be good.

There's also Kill La Kill that I'd love to recommend to you, but I'm not sure if someone your age with a kid should be watching it. (fk ton of skin)

And stay away from an anime called 'Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei'

Seen all these except knights of sidonia, NGNL (on ep 6 i think), psychopass, and kokoro connect.  Would back up the recommendation of  anything on that list.  Kill la kill is amazing if you can get past the fan service.  I honestly didn't even notice it that much while watching it.  I was just hyped week after week watching it together with friends.  Also F/Z is the prequel to fate stay night which I've heard has a terrible anime adaptation compared to the VN.  I would wait to see how the FSN 2014 turns out (done by the people who made F/Z) and watch that before F/Z.

To add to the list, in no particular order:
mirai nikki
angel beats
monogatari series
sakurasou no pet na kanojo
katanagatari
the devil is a part timer
summer wars
nisekoi
steins gate

Haha I thought about adding that one but wasn't sure if he'd like it or not.  I'm really excited it's getting a 2nd season though :D.

I still need to finish 2nd season.  I got passed the Shinobu arc and had to take a break.  Then exams came up and I just never got around to finishing.  I'll make sure I finish it before Hana airs.

Hmm...might check that one out then depending on how reviews are after the first couple ep's.  A little disappointing to see Nao Touyama and Ai Kayano in it but not as main characters.

Though I still might try out mahouka.  I'm pretty sure my friend liked the manga, or at least what he read of it.

And I'm surprised you dint notice she played her lol.  She's probably one of the main reasons I liked oregairu so much.

I feel old when I put together my list, these are all anime series that I saw when I was between 5 and 13:

Astro Boy (60's and 80's series)
Fushigi no kuni no Arisu (Japanese-German anime about Alice in Wonderland)
Candy Candy
Captain Future
High School! Kimengumi
Saint Seiya
Dr Slump
Dragonball (and Z and GT)
Moero! Top Striker
The Swiss Family Robinson
Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken
Ginga Tetsudou 999
Grendizer
Fist of the North Star
Lamu (Urusei yatsura)
Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water
City Hunter
Sailor Moon
Sherlock Hound (still one of the finest series)
Ranma 1/2
Captain Tsubasa
Spoon Oba-san
The Mysterious Cities of Gold

Afterwards I picked up when I was about 20 and saw most of the titles already mentioned here.

I'm guilty of overrating stuff.  Both because I don't look at anime critically but I also kind of think of it like 7 is watchable but nothing special, 8 was worth the watch(for me), 9 great, and 10 i ****ing loved it.  Also I think I usually round up my vote since you can't do .5's.  I'm sure there's a few ratings I should change if I went and looked back at what I scored stuff but I'm kind of lazy :S.

I don't actually know...I really haven't checked other people's MAL before.  But seems like a fairly high number compared to the 53% i got from stache's.

Also you need to watch Nekomonogatari before 2nd season...good luck with that.  I hate Tsubasa so Neko+the first 4 ep or so of 2nd season took me forever.  Ayase's VA also sees more screentime in 2nd season than she did in nise and I grew to like her character.

Nice, an Anime thread. Recently I just picked up Knights of Sidonia and watched 8 episodes last night. So far really enjoy it, I'll probably read the manga after I finish it.
Also finished the movies Colorful and Sakasama Patema and I liked those too.

If you guys haven't watched Ping Pong the Animation this season I highly recommend it.

I can't stand streaming anime.  Maybe if I had crunchyroll I would but otherwise the quality just looks so bad to me, but I'm also running at 1440p.  I also like having a collection and being able to bring whatever to watch with friends.

I usually check MAL to see which subgroup has the best subs for that anime then check nyaa sorted by seeds and hope I find it.  Almost always pick thora or UTW if theyre available.

And how many of you are excited for the summer season?

I'm looking out for aldnoah.zero, Akame ga kill, Zankyou no terror, and glasslip. Sao II for the nostalgia and entertainment factor; maybe it'll surprise me

The only thing I'm planning on watching right now is Sabagebu cause it looks like it's basically Stella C3Bu Season 2 and I enjoyed Stella C3, but that's usually how I start out the season and I end up watching a bunch of other stuff that gets recommended to me.

Mind briefing us on what that series is all about? Generally I don't touch slice of life's unless it's super hyped like toradora or a deconstruction of it like oregairu

It's about an airsoft club in an all girls' school. I can get into pretty much anything gun/military related so I thought it might be a decent watch. Otherwise it seems pretty generic  :p

Watched both seasons of index and railgun.  Definitely enjoyed railgun more and though about picking up the manga, but I really don't read that often.

The Manga is behind and not really all that different. the light novel are way ahead. Index is way better :X but the best one is To Aru Kagaku no Accelerator. obviously

Behind compared to the LN of course.  But the manga is still way further than the anime went, at least for railgun it stops at ch 40.  But I'm simple minded and need pictures to keep my attention   :-[.  I just preferred the characters more in railgun.  I hated index (the girl) and touma didn't seem like anything special to me either.

I actually didnt even know accelerator had his own spinoff.  I liked him but what made him more enjoyable was last order.  I heard his early stuff gets really dark, including cannibalism and other stuff.

Is this tuning into the "post your MyAnimeList link" topic?

I don't have time for that!

Instead I keep a well-curated and annotated notepad file of everything I've watched, if I liked it, stuff in my ever-growing "to watch" queue and what's in my even-faster-growing "to get" queue.

and you guys are overflowing my "to-get" queue!

I like to search anime and keep track of what I planned on trying or not.  I tend to not recognize some of the names and forget I already have it on my list.  Also I really like to see who the voice actors are.  It actually bothers me when I recognize a voice but can't remember who else they played.

I even set up my chrome so all I type is "a [space]" then start typing what I want to search on MAL.  I guess realistically it only saves like 1 click from googling though.

they make this stuff too fast.... jesus.. how do the japanese people watch it all..   they must got anime coming out of their ears...

no wonder they're obsessed with portable devices... it's the only way they can finish watching their damn queue...

Well its like 30 or 40 shows a season. some of them are bound to be good and relevant to your specific genre tastes, so you end up with a ton of stuff to watch.

I always end up just watching, and if I don't like it then I don't finish it. But I usually use it as something to do when I'm sharpening the knives, or desoldering keyboards or what-have you.

That way, I don't "lose" any time on it.

Just finished no game no life....waaaaaaaaay more fanservice than I was expecting.  Though I was told it wasnt that fanservicey from a guy who loves DxD and reads even ecchier stuff so I should have known better.

Still enjoyed it though.  Had a lot of my favorite VA in it and I liked the music.

I guess next I should finish toradora...i stopped like 2/3rds of the way through.
