I'm really confused about why they kept making anime after Cowboy Bebop. That seemed like a wholly logical stopping point.
you can only watch it so many times until you have it memorized entire.

I suffer from acute amnesia, so it's always fresh to me.

After watching the entirety of Rail Wars, I must say, it seemed so frustratingly futile.  Why spend so long pushing the harem aspect when it's obvious the only way to get MC's interest would be to be a locomotive?

Just flipped through the calligraphy anime [Barakamon]..   Good stuff..

I've not yet reached the level where calligraphy would elevate me into a state of Peril...

Well, the stories don't really change...   so it comes down to HOW you rate it..

Do you rate it on presentation or originality or must it have BOTH

If your idea of a 10/10 Anime has to be both Original and Well presented..

Then all new animes similar to the OLD ones you've seen  will be rated lower, because they will have 0 originality points assigned..

I don't think any plot is original, so no originality points go to old anime or new.

It all depends on what you are after. Are you only interested in no-CG old school type? great. Are you interested in re-tellings of stories (the plot)? great. There will be something for everyone.

Personally, I'm interested in the storytelling-as-art aspect, so I am interested in not necessarily the visual or vocal presentation, but how the story unfolds. Because of this, the length and pacing matter very much to me. So I can enjoy old or new anime equally well.

A sticker on black :)

Obviously Mikasa.. Everyone love tsun
Show Image

She's more Kuu than Tsun lol

I thought she was more Yandere x Tsundere... bit of both.

She hasn't had a typical yandere moment though
Like when has she threatened to kill Eren? She's cold on the outside and only shows her moe-less dere side indirectly

As well, I feel as if all her 'tsun' moments are implied, not exactly directly shown. This makes it more like head canon, rather than matters of fact

Seasonal suggestion: Your Lie in April (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso)
It's on the lines of shows focused heavily on music like Kids on the Slope (Sakamichi no Apollon), and the sakuga has been above average (especially in #5 with Takashi Kojima as the sole key animator/animation director).

I' just watched the first epi of gekkan shojou

These characters imho are very conflicting..  they exist in a "limited, compartmentalized" emotional state..

Most certainly an attractive man and woman alone together in a room, as long as neither of them has significant personality defects, would just be having sex..  and there would be no more story to write.

That is the reality everywhere, be it Japan or anywhere else..

So, what is the purpose of creating such unrealistic fantasies that are both impractical and impossible..

The only explanation that can exist must be to fulfill the fantasy of someone who is abnormal and must escape the objective realities of everyday life...

A loner, for example..

He wishes to have a romance, but for whatever reason he is unable to achieve it or at least unable to reach the plateau of partners he desire..

So.. instead of losing himself to mere misery, he chooses to lose himself in the fantasy of an impossible relationship that consists only minimally of animal attraction, and possesses impossible purity // innocence akin to very-very young children.

In many ways, the seeker of this type of material is attempting to escape reality, his own intellect, and the realization of a judicial world..

I'm not judging, I'm just saying that this is how a loner would be preyed upon..

Or... It's a comedy/SoL that doesn't have anything to do with the philosophical

Thing is, it's both enjoyable and objectively sound. I think you're just overthinking things a bit.

What is anime but a medium? No one method of storytelling in anime is the be-all and end-all.
I'd even argue that the 'realism' in some anime can't even be considered realism for the sheer reason that no stylus that touches a screen or mind that draws up a storyboard can ever truly be void of bias or contain reality in its entirety.

I'd suggest you take a breather since it feels like you're talking less about the genre and more about your distaste for the social outcasts and how anime that appeals to a specific audience is inherently inferior or disgusting, which it isn't.

tp4tissue was clearly his high school’s biggest heartbreaker. Just sex sex sex, forget about the story.

Anyway, what human has no “significant personality defects”?

- Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun is my Anime of the Season (HILARIOUS comedy, slice of life; very character-driven and it's not forced at all)

I'm watching this right now, and it's just what the doctor ordered. Seo is such a fantastic character.

+++++

Best writing in an anime series I’ve seen in years.

I' just watched the first epi of gekkan shojou

You misunderstand.. i specifically said.. "not judging"..   I am analyzing sans emotion.. For all purposes you may assume Tp4 = Robot..

This is NOT a slice of LIFE..  when that life does not exist for Anyone in the real world..  and if you explore the jokes they employ..  they're not reality jokes either..

A reality joke is something that's funny because it breaks some logical construct established in reality.

A typical anime joke, is some sort of in joke that is only breaking a fantasy construct which only occurs IN ANIME..

But you're not a robot. The things you say have meaning and connotations and charges; they don't disappear just because you insert two words. And I take 'slice of life' to be slice of THEIR life. Who's to say a FICTIONAL character is unable to have a life as portrayed in that anime.

You're just getting metaphysical with a very simple, yet tasteful tale.

Yeah I lost you when you started mentioning reality jokes and what not.

P.s. Impact, not intent. Doesn't matter what you intended if the message that gets across to the reader is one saturated in negative connotations. You very indirectly link those who enjoyed the show as being 'loners'. The words you choose, alone, are in pretty poor taste.

Nozaki-kun is about exaggerating and parodying tropes of shoujo manga.  It's in the title "Monthly Girl's Nozaki-kun".  There is no deeper philosophical reading to it.  The source material manga is also written by a woman.

So... slow your roll and enjoy the tanuki.

I will not apologize about my choice of words.. as I've already said, I meant NO disrespect.. when I say SANS emotion..   I MEAN IT...

If you choose to be offended at this point...  it's you're prerogative, not mine..
