I really wanted a large screen, so I got a projector with a 100 inch screen for it. Though you're definitely right about light being an issue, I can't quite get that size with tvs yet, at least not in the same price range.

I went as far as considering rear projection..  Just cut a 100 inch hole in the wall..  But by the time this was happening.. Prices have come down enough that the labor was too much ..

70" 4k  tvs are $1000 on sale these days..  a good one can be had for $2500,    a good projector with 4k and good blacks starts around $2500 add in cost of motorized screen, room decor, lamps down the line.. potential repairs..    it's about the same price..

I've seen the 80 inch go to $2500

Then you finish up and get sad once you realize that this and Kagetsu Tohya are Nasu's best works by far.

That reminds me, I've been thinking of starting a GH Manga thread. Might seem redundant, given we have the Anime Thread, but I want to talk about stuff that either isn't adapted at all or material that's not fully adapted.

That's television in general..  Because if the characters are not designed in narrow ways,  it makes their decisions arbitrary and meaningless,  in that way, they would be even less relate-able to the audience

haibane renmei is great because their personalities are so realistic, and the characters all have subtle traits which make them more unique and interesting then making characters super hyped up and exaggerated. not to say there are no shows with caricatures that are good (welcome to the nhk for instance) but most of the time its poorly executed and just gets annoying. another example of a series that doesnt need to rely on making unbelievable personalities is beck, where the main character is just an ordinary kid making his way into the world of music. its so much more interesting to see how someone reacts to strange scenarios and trying to read the motives of a characters actions especially if the character is actually modeled after regular humans.

I am currently making my way through Gantz for the first time.  I have liked it so far and I am about halfway in.  I should be finishing that this weekend.  Has anyone seen Those Who Hunt Elves?  I never hear anyone talk about it but it is one of my favorites.  It is not the best quality or story I have ever seen but the premise and execution is hilarious.

Well, true it has a pretty high rating apparently. I guess I was expecting something like Girls und Panzer or some other weird ****.

The soundtrack just clicks, I regularly have to stop watching to let it soak in..

Maybe, who knows. It's mix of actual WW1&2 history and fantasy.

My WW history is rusty at best but for now it kinda has very vaguely followed some events of WW1 and the season ends near the turning point of the war.

The Russians, British and Americans are yet to join the party.

I watched up to episode 3,  kind of bored with the whole magic girl thing. not enough battle complexity..  and very drawn out build ups that don't seem to equate with visual rewards.

It's not really a battle anime though. I think it's refreshing to follow a morally ambiguous (cough psychopath) MC who is purely looking out for herself. Is she truly evil? She doesn't seem to enjoy killing people or want to risk being killed but being a soldier was still really the only opportunity she could've gotten as an orphan girl in such age. Also, fact is that killing people is the most effective way to advance in her career path during war time. She also takes pride in excelling at something which in this case happens to be war.

I don't know man, maybe I'm just a sucker for some edgelord ****..

Kimi no Na Wa has such a good soundtrack and the art is amazing.

I recently picked up Gankutsuou, and having read the Count of Monte Cristo before, it's a really good adaption of the original novel, a very creative take on the original. In fact, I'm obsessed with this anime right now... I'm a sucker for these sort of stories :P
