Why DON'T we have a dating section..
« on: Sat, 10 October 2015, 21:23:01 »
Why not..

We just need a special moderator for it..

Dating for geeks..

I bet we could come up with a great Natively developed matching profile form that would work for us much better than those other websites that cater to NORMAL people.

A Geekhacker needs to marry someone who isn't into keyboards. Someone they would have to answer to if they blew all their money on keyboards. Otherwise you're just going to end up bankrupt. Or living in a van down by the river.

I can see it now:
The geekhack dating section.

Him: I really enjoy the way we can actually go out dating without having to worry about anything else!
Her: I really enjoy the really great food at this place!
Him: Isn't this great?  I can't wait until we get the chance to do this again!  Hey! They have FREE WiFi! Let me get out my satchel here.....
Her: Oh cool!  I just happen to have this spare BlueTooth keyboard!  Maybe we can hook it up!
Him: Cordless?  BlueTooth?  Ahh, you must be using one of those NuLaxy things!  Let me see!
Her: Not until you buy dessert!  Waiter...
Him: Oh Fantastic!  I can log into geekhack from here!  Hey!  We can take pictures of our keyboards and brag about this fancy place!
Her: Okay but I have to take a picture of you happily ordering our dessert!
Him: Okay! Okay!  Hey!  Where do I post this thing?
Her: OMG!  You don't know?  TP4 has a dating thread on there...  Let me show you...
Him: Okay waiter. she'll have dessert now.  "uh...."
Her: (Talking to waiter) I'll have the banana milkshake with 2 straws!  And can you put some strawberry slices and whipped cream on top?
Waiter:  Certainly.
Him: Are you done with my Tablet yet?  Did you find the dating thread?
Her:  Oooh!  Wow!  Unhhh!  Yes!  Yes!  YES!
Him: What is it?
Her: Snowdog showing off again.  I love that guy!  He's built like a Model M.

Well if you wanna party with the d-squad but don't think they're up to your standards then that's another thing that might need to be taken into consideration for

But if you don't wanna join the dating site, then that's your thing

Just trying to get the ball rolling with some eye candy options

Why?  Perhaps because this is a keyboard forum.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Why?  Perhaps because this is a keyboard forum.

99% who visit here are Males, only a tiny amount of Girls visit here due to an actual interest in keyboards and to find out what the average nerd likes to acquire.

So if you are Gay this place might be heaven for you but if you desperately want a female then you MUST visit your local (your area) Grocery Stores, Dance Classes, Wine Tasting Events (really good), Art Gallery and Fitness Classes.

I would tell you which event I found my Mrs at but that will be another time in the far, far future.......

My parents were on my ass about this before I got married just 3 years ago.  I was into my cars, car website, and just enjoying life.  And then along comes the wife.  It changes everything, so you have to remember that before going that route.

On the other hand, I know guys we happened to meet a girl that was into autocrossing like they were and even had an evo like they did.  Long story short--they're married, have two evos and autocross all the time together.  Similar hobbies aren't necessarily bad.

While forums in general are male-dominated, you'd be surprised how many smoking hot ladies there are online (yes, even on here).  That being said, they're here for the topic 99.99999% of the time, not to find a significant other, so not only does the ratio suck, but it's also not the right place or the right time.

Grocery stores are awesome!  I didn't meet my wife that way, but I was oblivious to a lot of ladies that were trying to start a conversation with me (I was an idiot with women and pretty much still am, lol).  Friday nights were the best.  I still remember the two girls that tried to start up a conversation over stove top stuffing...

What I've learned about the whole significant other thing--do your thing in life and she will come to you--not because of any attraction or anything like that, but because your lives will intersect at the right place at the right time.

And despite how many female members GH has, I would guess that most of them joined GH to discuss and learn about keyboards and keycaps.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. After reading through the (lack of) excercise thread, I wouldn't call keyboards a "healthy" hobby :p

Whether her hobby be keyboard related or not my partner will be arty.  The best find to find arty people is not art classes - they don't need 'em.  Artists are home doing they're thing, I'm home doing mine - meeting is not an option.  But you're right that even artists need to eat!

Unfortunately at the time I'm usually in a grocery store (on my way home from work) the customers are maingly old people, pairs of girls dolled up for a night on the town, or couples with tired kids making annoying noises.  Needless to say as a logical and sane person my earphones stay in, but maybe that needs to change :-\

Only 4 keyboards ? Do think I'm a pleb ?
Also WPM must be on top of the profile, right before anything else.

Well here's the thing.. Many people who  use the keyboard quite a-bit,  might not chase WPM speed..

So, i wasn't sure about WPM as a requirement,  because it's outside the realm of practical use.

Because while 70-100wpm isn't really fast,   it's more than enough for daily use.

I've bumped into my share of artsy girls.  I met one at a party and she actually tracked me down and we went and shot photos together one day.

Most of the artsy girls I've met have been at places artsy people hang out or are passionate about.  Usually I was there because of someone/something else, but I've generally been attracted to artsy stuff so I'd tag along.

A Geekhacker needs to marry someone who isn't into keyboards. Someone they would have to answer to if they blew all their money on keyboards. Otherwise you're just going to end up bankrupt. Or living in a van down by the river.
Hey, if only I had a van to store my keyboard collection in ...

It's the name of a website that apparently offered a way for married people to hook up with others and have an affair. I had a hard time believing it was real when the story broke. But some hackers got their hands on a list of all their clients and tried to blackmail the company for money in exchange for a promise not to leak the users' real names. AFAIK the company didn't pay up and the hackers leaked the info.

Yup, it was a scam all along.

Women don't need a website to cheat..

They just go to work dressed up..  Say, Hello,  and boom..

If A guy wants to cheat,  he has to go workout for 3 months, cut carbs,  pay a months worth of some other female's food bill, Listen to and REMEMBER the things she says,  THEN maybe, he gets to cheat..

So,  honestly.....  Yea,  getting the short end here...

Um..

It'd probably work for the wife , about as well as it'd work on any-other-woman...

The key issue here is,  the difference in expenditure required for gratification.

I think a major part of the problem with women with children is that they're pretty much completely locked to raising kids.

So, overall their time to work on personal social / economic improvement is hindered.

Then, they see what all these other women from much more affluent family units have,  and they feel ****ty that their husband and partner can't provide those things for them..

That leading to lower desire for their partner, then less romantic interplay, then the partner decides, hai, where did I see a TP4 thread justifying what I'm about to do, ok here it is, Yup.. Social inequality, Time to workout and save some bux to pay another female.

Another fantasy segment catering to all other loners who THINK they know how real life happens, to other people but never to them.

First mistake you make is comparing money to finding EXTREME happiness, not so.  Yeah makes things easier in our societies all over the globe but it comes down to attentiveness to HER.  Women know when you are faking something, especially the Mrs, she knows you better than any family member or even all your previous lovers, since she has been with you over a long period of time to witness ALL your frailties and weaknesses.

She may take advantage of that OR she may support you so, you'll get someone who helps you with all your deficiencies and stands by you regardless BUT it's a two way street, in which you need to contribute to her needs and wants as well.

Only living with someone for some time will sort out which person works with your own psychological needs and you find out if she is the ONE.  Couldn't imagine coming home to an empty house now because she is what makes it a true home for both of us.

When you find real love you will know it, it's almost like someone switching on a bright light in a darkened room.....the best I can describe this, being that I am a confirmed Rock-Ape.

You are painting an entire gender with a very wide brush there. I think you are probably right about you statements when it comes to women who expect to be taken care of by a husband. Those people are out there, sometimes that is by thier upbringing and/or culture and sometimes it is just because it is something appealing to them.

However, most women do not have kids and then magically care about nothing else and other than raising them. Just as men don't suddently stop caring about other aspects of life. Having a kid is a big deal, but you don't lose your personality and personal interests. And most certainly women can both work and be a mother (and a good one). Cheating happens for a bunch of different reasons, none of which are good. It often involves a fair amount of stupidity, selfishness and bad decision making.

Your trouble is that you want a girl who is independant and can take care of herself, but you also want a woman to meet your outdated expectations. You can't have both, and I don't think you could handle a woman who doesn't need a provider, cause you say crazy **** that will make them want to punch you in the face.

TP4 just needs to learn empathy and then he'll be fine. Find a woman that can teach you that. :)

Come on, I'm sure you could find some humor in judging the people who choose to put themselves out there.....isn't that how the internet works? And why the world is so terrifying? Maybe that last one is just me.

Tp4, based on your general thoughts on women you don't seem very dateable.

Thank goodness there are still the cousins.

Then, they see what all these other women from much more affluent family units have,  and they feel ****ty that their husband and partner can't provide those things for them..

Jeebus, have you developed fire yet or are you still learning to walk upright?
I know you are stuck in the stone age for computers, but you don't have to hold onto stone age gender stereotypes too. As for cheating, some people are not monogamous by nature, others are but still cheat, when they do, it's often because emotional needs are not being met at home. Yes, even for men. It's often less about sex, and almost never because of money (it's pretty rare when an affair will help you monetarily unless it's prostitution).

And no, you don't have spend a fortune on food if you do it right, I'm more impressed by a nice local place I never heard of than an expensive restaurant, it shows he did some research instead of breaking out his wallet and isn't just trying to buy me. The same with looking like Brad Pitt in his prime, you don't have to be sexy, smart, rich, or powerful, there are poor, fat, ugly, strange, short, and nerdy guys who get laid on a regular basis. If you spent as much time and effort on women as you do on keyboards and archaic computers (and GH!), you could too. Where is your focus in life? The guys who have sex often is because they worked at it, figured out what to say, how to say it, and put themselves out there. You may hate the "players", but they invested themselves in figuring out the game while you spent your time learning how to install Windows. On the other hand, it's good you have a hobby because for some guys, that IS their hobby, and when they finally meet that one person they want to be with, they suddenly need a new hobby.

Nobody is monogamous by nature. There is absolutely nothing natural about maintaining an exclusive romantic relationship. It's a ton of work, most of which is not directly self-beneficial. It's also the only hope for any semblance of long-term emotional stability.

And FWIW, I think tp4 is quite progressive for a China-born man.

Which part? A Geekhacker needs to marry someone who isn't into keyboards. Someone they would have to answer to if they blew all their money on keyboards. Otherwise you're just going to end up bankrupt. Or living in a van down by the river.

Whatcha ya got against living in a van by the river? Seems dreamy to me.

Nobody is monogamous by nature. There is absolutely nothing natural about maintaining an exclusive romantic relationship. It's a ton of work, most of which is not directly self-beneficial. It's also the only hope for any semblance of long-term emotional stability.

And FWIW, I think tp4 is quite progressive for a China-born man.

i think...i've been offended for the first time on the internet.

that's actually quite an achievement.
Which part? The part where I observed that it's hard for people to stay faithful to their spouses; the part where I rightly pointed out that cheating breeds emotional chaos; or the part where I recognized that China's legendary male-dominated culture produces men who are usually more misogynistic than our friend tp4?

the part where you compared me to tp4 :(

They just go to work dressed up..  Say, Hello,  and boom..
If A guy wants to cheat,  he has to go workout for 3 months, cut carbs,  pay a months worth of some other female's food bill, Listen to and REMEMBER the things she says,  THEN maybe, he gets to cheat..

I actually agree with you despite how the other post sounds.
I tend to think of what most people term monogamy as serial monogamy, but some people can't even handle that very well.

Why is the bar for a successful marriage only achievable if someone dies and anything else is a failure? That's just insanity, try using that metric for anything else. Relationships aren't meant to last 60 years, it happens, but rarely as monogamous and wonderful as people make it out to be. To anyone who disagrees, think about this, what happens when people regularly live to 150 years old(?), do we hold them to the same standard? Sorry, I'm not staying with anyone for 130 years. Marriages should be more like contracts and have a renegotiation or expiration date, where after say 4 years, you re-evaluate.

Well if you said "till death do us part" or some permutation thereof, then you are the one who set the standard for success/failure. If not, then why get married at all? What are you committing to if the terms are so vague as "till I cite irreconcilable differences" or "till I find someone younger and hotter."

I will admit that I may be old-fashioned on this, but old fashioned does not necessarily mean wrong.

You think that's bad.  India is known for raping women because it's so easy to get away with it.

And then the fobs (fresh off the boats) come here and then think they can treat women like crap and realize that they are in the wrong country for that.  But by then the damage is done and all Indian guys are stereotyped--at least in the Bay Area.  Apparently it's horrible there if your brown and want to get down.

Committing to something doesn't always have to mean committing to it for life and even if it does only last 4 or 8 years by design, how is that any different than divorce rates? It's not being non-committal, it's being realistic.

I wonder how courts would look upon a 4 year term marriage?

And no, I would not say till death do us part.

Inanis is so on point here

Life is a journey. When people's paths intersect, they may lock together and continue indefinitely, or they may diverge after some amount of time in parallel.

I believe that marriages in earlier generations were more permanent and stable because the majority of people married very young, finished maturing together, and because life was much simpler and more difficult (ie the majority of time and energy devoted to mere survival) stayed the course without hardly even considering alternatives.

Today, few people marry before they are fully mature, with their own courses much better established, and modern life has made life so much easier that not only are alternatives more abundant, but they are far easier to take advantage of.
They may have gagged Trump.

They can’t gag me.
I have no gag reflex.
I am ungaggable.
I have trained my whole life for this.

Well said.  I remember when people moving from and living in several different countries inside a decade was unheard of.  Now, people move all the time for a job--and that in itself brings all sorts of new challenges to 'staying the course'.

We heard you before. However, in tp's case, this is as close as he can expect to get.

That Ashley Madison hack was just to distract from the OPM hack news coming out.

You can meet plenty of cool women in the real world who see whatever you're into as a positive, rather than being someone who's into the same **** everybody else is into. I always hated online dating it never worked for me. Just go hang out where interesting women are and do something you enjoy and it'll happen organically.

Of course when you are in a relationship and have children you don't get to indulge them quite as much but they're still highly enjoyable in the time you do find for them.

If that is the case, they did a terrible job. Everyone knows they got hacked.

Ashley Madison got hacked because they were lazy liars. The kept data they shouldn't have and left it exposed, in the clear. As a company, they *deserved* to get hacked. It is too bad for all those people out there that got exposed. Even if their spouse knew about it and there was an open marriage in place, no one deserves to have their personal business exposed like that.

Life is a journey. When people's paths intersect, they may lock together and continue indefinitely, or they may diverge after some amount of time in parallel.

Or ... back then things were made to last, and if something (including a marriage) started to break, you'd do your best to fix it.

These days everything, including people, is disposable.

Anyone who thinks interstellar travel is a good idea has no idea about he magnitudes of distance in space

Earth is an oasis of nothing and we should be doing our absolute all to save it
