edit - I use to like Appleseed and I can't seem to figure out why..

I saw an advertisement for a Hunter x Hunter movie, got a little excited, and then realized it was the dubbed 2013 movie being released in American theatres or something? I don't really understand why it's coming up now...

Anime scene encoders are too obsessed with Banding.

They run the debanding algorithm so hard, it's removing way too much fine-texture detail.

This is interesting, got a super messed up monitor here, ~500:1 contrast ratio, backlight is OLD,  but calibrated, anime still looks great on it.. Seems like anime doesn't use alot of dark tones in general, so it doesn't even matter..

Stand Alone Complex has darn gud' art.. real detailed backgrounds.

It's too bad the scanning resolution they used back then was so low.

Mmmhmhmmhmm.. Tp4 only uses bestest media player.

MPC-HC.

When you're in the player, open up a file (with subtitles), then right-click on the player screen - subtitle track - options - > (left panel), default style -> right panel screenalignment, click the center bubble, beneath that color/transparency - > Primary -> lower to 50%

Then go back to the player screen and click subtitle track again, but this time click default style, so that it enables your settings, which override the settings inside the anime-file itself.

Also, you need MPCHC + Madvr renderer + (minimum) Nvidia 1060 for good anime performance.

Recommend 1080 or 1080Ti.

Unfortunately, all that stuff have very low animation budgets, they do not compare to regular anime.

IMHO, regular anime already has too-much of so-called  Fan-Service..

Not nearly as bad as korean-boy-bands which is a very odd phenomenon that's occurred. Highlighting the modern rise of feminism and proliferation of the new fujoshi culture.

I'm a great big fan of Kyoani shows, my favorite being Hibike! Euphonium.

They also animated K-ON! (cute girls doing cute things) among other fuwa fuwa moe shows like Lucky Star!

Their recent movies are great too, aaa their main director Naoko Yamada has crafted beautiful cinematography in Tamako Love Story, Koe no Katachi, and most recently, Liz to Aoi Tori.

Another note, I am also a great big fan of Satashi Kon's and Mamoru Oshii's works!

Yea, it definitely gets slow, season 2 is similar in that regard. It's been quite a bit of stuff focused more on character growth. Also, One Punch and Mob have the same original author, but they followed the original art much more closely in the animation in Mob iirc

Ok so  they're using 10bit dithering on encodes with a debanding filter, Good for 8bit banding, But it Washes out the Texture Detail and so they have to Turn on Sharpening,  But then the Sharpening not only sharpens edges, it also sharpens the Artifacts.

It's prob easiest if they just left out the Deband and Sharpening,

The Rip encode LOOKS sharper, but it's WRONG.. !!

It's suppose to have some sort of net synchronization just like in the show.

So, some sort of AI- development perhaps.

tp4, what media player do you use and how do you get the subtitles in the middle with slight transparency?

Mmmhmhmmhmm.. Tp4 only uses bestest media player.

MPC-HC.

There's also MPC-BE now, but it's for the moment, less compatible. stick to HC.

Unfortunately I use MPV; might look into reworking my setup so that I can use MPC-HC unless I can figure it out with MPV.
