I bought an HHKB, not sure how to feel.

I know that feeling.  The denial that you just spent that much, the acceptance that you spent that much, then the joy that you got something with that cool of a layout and that feels that nice to type on.  It took me a little bit of time to get over the sticker shock, but I'm happy with it.

I spent two weeks just staring at my Lightsaver after I bought it, I was scared that touching it would break something.  :))
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

Mine is still wrapped in the shipping material in the box it was shipped in. *sigh*

Today is day 3 of living in a hotel, starting to get old already.

Spray painted a plastic headphone stand. Everything went well until I realized that the sealer I was using reacted with the paint and caused every layer of paint to warp and peel off :-X

Do the band mod on your HHKB! I feel it made the switches heavier. I kept one stock to compare and they seemed a bit heavier. Not 55g heavier, but a bit. Maybe all placebo.

I showed my wife the ui I have been working on for my plate building tool and she said "so you are doing this for free and just giving it away to everyone?".  I was like "yep". She looked confused.  She doest really get why I would spend all my free time working on a project that I am just giving away.

For me its a bit like carving (one of my other hobbies). I do it for fun and to take my mind off the other stuff that I HAVE to do. As soon as you start getting paid for something you have an obligation to it and it takes the fun it of it. That is why I turn down all the commissioned carving. If I start doing it for money it won't be a way for me to relax my brain.

DON'T STOP I'M ALREADY HARD
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

a mix between what did you do today and what did you add to your keyboard

today i cleaned up a really dirty Lexmark 1995 model M i bought in June 2013 for 25$ shipped and was chilling in my closet. I cleaned everything externally including key caps, i added in the missing key-caps and now it looks as good as new. needs a new ps2 cable (this is not a model with SDL :( ) which i will do later. ill clean out the inside when i replace the ps2 cable, i dont think it needs bolt modding it feels pretty good. i don't feel or hear anything rattling around on the inside which is a good sign.

once its done i'm going to give this away to one of my friends if i can convert him to buckling spring from cherry mx blue

It was really nasty, nastier than even that crappy photo shows, stuff was all up in the keys and stuff. I used bleach household cleaner, a microfiber rag, and a paintbrush to get the dust and dirt and loose stuff off/out. Got to love that PVC construction and PBT key caps :) that **** would murder most other keyboards and key caps.

Such revival of an old legend - warms the heart :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I think I finished the validation and error handling for the UI of my plate building tool. Time to start wiring it all up.

Cleaned the garage and threw a PERC 6/i into the HP XW8600 and stuck 4 146 gig SAS drives on it for ****s and giggles.

Kind of odd using a Dell RAID card in the HP but at the same time I'm not buying stupid adapters so I can use the LSI 1068 onboard with SAS drives. Including plain SAS headers would've been too hard.

Just made a $6k payment on my student loans.  Ouch.

That said, at the rate I'm going, my ~$30k in loans should be paid off in 18-24 months.

Nice, I just payed 13k for next semester. If I didn't have a scholarship I don't know what I'd do.

I walked away from undergrad with $20k and $8-10k from grad school.  If it wasn't for scholarships, I'd be sunk.

Wow that's a lot better than I'll end up. What did you major in?
