Legit met the cutest female. And she's a ginger o.o sry baldgye but female gingers get a pass

I feel like female gingers are either really hot or really not, there is no middle ground.
Lets just say, I'd stick around for 6 months after our first child before I bailed. That's how adorable she was.

Wow, so quite the special lady then.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Man, there was this really unfortunate, nay 2 very unfortunate gingers when I was in High School, they are out there. There is also this other Ginger near my town that just stands next to the highway and stares at cars all day, I feel sorry for him, he is also super ugly.

Today I went to see my specialist and he cleared me for another reduction in my medication, yay!  3 months ago I was taking 25 pills a day, 2 months ago I was taking 21 pills a day, 1 month ago I was taking 16 pills a day, and as of today I am only going to be taking 10 pills a day!

I also have my wife and I's tax return almost done and we're getting a pretty good refund this year, of which a portion will have to be allocated to keyboard paraphernalia and whatever my wife wants to buy but another portion will have to be allocated to paying for the surgery I had about 2 months ago :(

Yesterday I severely underestimated the length of my lab report so I'm still awake doing it (5:30AM here) and I'll probably be up for the rest of the night.

Lesson learned  :))
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

I always forget you guys are Eastern despite being west of me. When can we just annex that whole damn peninsula?  :3

I know your pain though. I do not miss the all-nighters one bit...

The UP: we're west of you but an hour ahead :))

This is the first one so far this year... Hopefully I have to do it again.

I volunteered to judge the posters of a science fair

I think I was too nitpicky in my comments

I wrote like a whole page of corrections on every single poster.

They just had so many mistakes. The sad part is this was an AP Biology class. ~le sigh~

Upgraded my 3tb hdd to a 4tb hdd.

Out of 9,564 Files, 554 Folders I only lost one single episode to a CRC and that is being replaced.

My anime is safe for now.

Today, I've lectured fellow undergrads on the basics of null-hypothesis significance testing. It seems they actually grasp the concepts as well. How's that for a day?

I can imagine. Well, I'm a social scientist / researcher (and a programmer), so data analysis is like what I do half of the time, including teaching people how to do it. People always confuse the null hypothesis with the alternative hypothesis and what a P-value means. But yeah, partly it makes sense that it is difficult to grasp because technically NHST isn't completely sound in terms of how it is used most of the time (Cohen, "Why The Earth Is Round").

Today, I've lectured fellow undergrads on the basics of null-hypothesis significance testing. It seems they actually grasp the concepts as well. How's that for a day?

Whoa.  That's impressive.  Null-hypothesis stats things make my head hurt unless I "just follow the rules".  :))

I don't have the best knowledge of these things, but what always confused me was how inconsistent higher level stats were with whether a low or high number was good or bad.  Or maybe I wasn't taught by the best people, I dunno.  I'm also a learner by doing, and I was sitting in a class (Six Sigma) being told these things as rules rather than explanations, which is a sure way to make me not remember things.  :|

I can imagine - learning without context or wth you have to do with it later is pointless and makes it difficult to memorize and remember.

You probably find this the most boring topic ever (and that's OK of course), but basically the idea is that you have a research question for which you use data to verify the truth-value of that research question. To this end, you formulate a null hypothesis (statement of no effect, your research question is false) and an alternative hypothesis (statement of an effect, your research question is right, this is what you are interested in). You calculate with the null hypothesis, but you want to say something about your alternative hypothesis (the research question). So you need the null hypothesis to calculate the statistical test and its associated P-value, but you want to say something about the alternative hypothesis, which represents your research question.

The P-value that you calculate for a statistical test indicates the likelihood that the null hypothesis is true (not the whole story but this simplifies it for explanation). In other words, the P-value indicates the likelihood that you DID NOT find an effect. Now, if you find a P-value of .98 chances are EXTREMELY high that you DID NOT find an effect, or, that the null hypothesis is true. You now do not reject the null hypothesis and you conclude that your research question is not true and that you did not find an effect.

When you find a P-value of .02 chances are extremely SMALL that you DID NOT find an effect, or, that the null hypothesis is true. You do now reject the null hypothesis in favor of the alternative hypothesis and conclude that your research question is most likely to be true and conclude that you DID find an effect.

Mmm.. this paragraph turned out to be longer than I anticipated. I hope it wasn't too boring to read and that it made this difficult topic somewhat clearer!

This isn't boring in the slightest!  :))  I love stats, I just wish I understood it better.  :P  (plus, this ties into my career anyway)
And this definitely helped to put things in really easy-to-understand terms.  No wonder your students understood it, haha.  I had managed to cobble together a bit of an understanding in my mind, but was never truly solid on it.  I don't know why the people that taught me didn't explain it like this, but oh well.  :)

I have been a student myself not understanding half of it back in the day. So that made me wonder what it was that the stats courses always lacked. And I pinpointed it to the notion that stats teachers oftentimes take shortcuts: of 4 possible combinations they explain 1, give super abstract examples, and expect of you that it makes perfect sense and that you can figure out the other 3 combinations on your own. They also oftentimes forget to explain every intermediate step from question to answer, or to connect the dots for you. All that stuff is what I'm trying to do, because I realize that students (at least) in the social sciences are not freakin' einstein's to which this stuff comes natural.

Then most undergrad stud books are really extremely disrespectful. Moore & Mccabe's introduction come in around 600 pages with additional chapters on a CD!

Yes.  Probably going to do a tour with them if enough people are interested.
