Liquid Pro for laptop?
« on: Tue, 12 January 2016, 23:37:09 »
Haz any of you done this?    The reason is, Liquid pro, doesn't pump-out..

I'm thinking about it, since my laptop is very inconvenient to take apart every year to redo the thermal paste..

The only reservation I have is, since the laptop gets moved about,  I may need to seal it up some how.

For the Novices:

Laptops are bare die mounted,  which is why something like arctic silver, needs to be redone every year or so.. the past gets squeeze out from underneath heat spreaders.  (same issue with the 3xxx-6xxx delidded cpus)

okay, okay, okay. wait a minute

You seriously reapply thermal paste to your laptop CPU once a year? TP, I love ya, but that seems overkill. I've had a laptop for years and have never done this. And if and when the thing dies, I'll replace it. They are basically disposable at this point. If it breaks, replace it.

Now, my desktop, that is a different story.

Does re applying makes the difference in temp?
I mean as long as they don't throttle it never crossed my mind to do anything with the paste on my laptop

but liquid pro is very hard to handle, I've very little luck sending it from overseas
a couple of times it got burst out from the injector during shipping, you might wanna consider that Tp

Ah...  not to sound super geeky or anything..

But I travel with at least 2 different thermal pastes.. .. cough.. .cough..

I brought liquid pro, and gelid xtreme with me..

The LP is to touch up my dellided g3258

Now, as for Results..

After doing this for about 10 years..   at least 2 laptops every year..

I'd say,  the effect is anywhere from 5-10C  depending on how bad the pump out is that year..

If you remove the bottom cover of your laptop, can you see any copper heat pipes? By elevating my laptop and pointing a fan at them (cover off), my temps went from 60c under moderate load to below 45. The catch is you'll have a little more dust to contend with, and snapping the cover back on to move your laptop around is a minor inconvenience. I use these, they're well built and move a lot of air.
