How do you use the geekhack site most?
« on: Tue, 29 January 2019, 22:00:53 »
Hey everyone, in an effort to get to know the geekhack members better, I have a question.

What is your favorite thing to learn about here at geekhack? :)

1.  Collecting
2.  Gaming
3.  Professional Typing
4.  Modding
5.  For Buying/ Selling/ Trading

These are just suggestions.  I'm mainly trying to make friends by learning from the members here.

Thank you for your time and feedback.  :thumb:

I think most of us are here for interest checks/ group buys (:

There’s some other niche stuff but certainly not as big of a community there

Feels almost like a stealth MassDrop poll :p

1. tp threads for a light chuckle and curiosity
2. General off-topic.
3. Other peripherals like mice, computer setups and reading about ergonomic improvements/discussions.
4. Interesting developments of new ICs/GBs/customs (*cough* window shopping *cough*)

One thing that doesn't go enough said is the casual, low key vibe of the board. The lack of slickness has its own certain charm that I think helps maintain that vibe.

Discussions on modding and ergonomics is what caught my interest a long time ago. I have always been interested in input device/UI tech: both DIY projects and industry news are interesting, and a few projects that started here have also taken off.
Artisans, key sets and custom keyboards don't interest me much, but new switch types and layouts do.
Then there is the community, with other geeky topics and the general banter...

I came here for gaming hardware knowledge!
I've been playing UT2004 for 15 years in a great clan.
The game requires extremely fast, accurate keying
and I was researching mech's here when I saw a billion other things.
Great forum!

Thanks to all who replied thus far. :)

Gaming brought me here, and professional typing/woofs is why I stuck around

~3 years of ****x posting and I've yet to participate (unless you count rendering keyset images and minor CAD work) in group buys, classifieds, etc. One day :-*

Nice, another gamer.  I have found modding keyboards and collecting to be of great interest.
I see a lot of keyboards without backlighting and I want to learn what is the draw.
The boards look like they would be fun to type on and I write fiction like short stories.
I wonder if the keyboards that look plain would be fun for my next novel effort.
Kind of like an earthy feel....... :-\

I come here to respond to various topics and discussions to re-read and re-edit my responses various times only to delete them.

I originally came here for help on restoring a model m and got sucked in with a techkeys flash sale and I was all in from there.

I enjoy reading TP threads and discussions involving Leslieann and TP. I like checking out things people are sharing in and out of the hobby.

Probably my favorite thing to see on here is a thread start up on MST with an idea and see it become a completed project.

I have so many questions but I'll have to write them in separate topics, so I don't jack this one. LOL!  :))

Came for Artisans, stayed because I haven't won any yet  :p

JK, the community has been great and I've gone from someone who was just interested in cool artisans to someone who is growing more and more fond of all the new boards, accessories, keycap sets, etc.

I don't have the imagination to design things, I don't have the money to buy all the things and I'm not socially inclined so don't make friends leaving this site three main purposes - helping people debug their builds or repair damaged PCBs (gives my life a slight sense of meaning and can eat a lot of time), seeking advice on geeky topics that don't work well in search engines, and venting.  If I can answer other people's random questions I will but most of the discussion happens when I've gone to bed due to me being non-US so it's rare.

what best switch for gaming -ofthewild ??

MX Black, in my opinion.  Fast and firm, so less accidental key presses
but it will also depend on what type of game you are playing.
My first mech was a Filco Majestouch with MX Blacks and I've never used other
but I would consider other switch if a good  case could be made.  ;D
