How long before they release a smaller cheaper version without the portability part?

I'm down. It should cost like $50, too. Hook me up.

Isn't that only if it fails.. ?

the vita tv only came out after no one bought the vita.

Absolutely. This looks like nintendo may have gotten stuff together after the 3DS, 2DS and WiiU. All three had some sort of issue, mostly promotion and sales. Worst case is I can sell it since there is going to apparently be a shortage in the US sine pre-orders are sold out in many places and people still wanting them. I canceled my pre-order for Sonic Mania on the XBO so that I could have it on the Switch and be portable.

the 3DS sold 66 million units, I don't think they had any issues there at all

Just watched a couple unboxing videos and the construction and sizing is really disappointing to where it actually looks like it would be painful to play for more than 30 minutes or so. The horrible kit-kat controller aside, everyone is saying the buttons are too small and close together. And who would take their $300 console out and about as if it were a DS?

I've been meaning to get one but I need to know what the rest of the library looks like before dropping cash like that on a 1-game product.

I've been meaning to get one but I need to know what the rest of the library looks like before dropping cash like that on a 1-game product.

Here is a list of confirmed games.

http://www.ign.com/wikis/nintendo-switch/Nintendo_Switch_Games

Here are my initial impression on mine so far.

It's a bit large as a handheld, which is both good and bad. It will take a little getting use to it's size but that is no big deal.

The joycon are by far the thing most people are going to have issue with. They are small and the layout is far from optimal for playing. It is probably optimal for being able to be used in every configuration. For many single player games most people are going to want to shell out of the pro controller, or wait for some third party controllers. The small buttons and closeness of them will be an issue for those with larger hands or those use to a PS4 or XBO controller. When the joycon are in the grip or charging grip the IR camera is alway facing your genital area which I personally find disturbing.

Even though the Switch has a USB-C port that has video and sound when connected to my USB-C monitor it only charges the Switch and isn't recognized as being connected to external video. This is unfortunate as it means later you will have to buy some adapter to use on such displays or carry the base with you when you travel.

The launch day game offerings are slim, but there are many games on the way. Games are a personal choice so I wont go into any specific game but I will say that for most people the game offerings at launch are going to be very meager unless you are looking for the novelty games.

Performance wise the system is pretty much what you expect from and NV Tegra device. People have reported that the frame rate on Zelda drops occasionally and wether that is a software issue or performance issue remains to be seem. There have also been reports that one of the two (usually the left) joycon will stutter or disconnect for a second when in detached mode. Again that could be software or it could be performance and we have to wait to see how Nintendo addresses the issue. When connected with a charging grip or directly in handheld mode this is not an issue.

Currently there is also no way to backup your game saves either by copying them to the SD card or saving to the cloud. This is a big issue and I can only assume it will be addressed quickly by nintendo but again we have to wait and see. Which brings us to the network and online services. Currently the online service is absent aside from the eShop and some games with multiplayer. I did download FastRMX but have not tried the multiplayer yet. Nintendo was open that the online service wasn't ready and that is one of the reasons why everyone will be getting it free till later this year.

Some things to note, the Nvidia Shield which is almost identical spec wise to the switch is capable of 4k video but not gaming. It would be nice to see that added later. It would also be nice to see a Steam streaming client so you can stream steam games from you PC. That probably wont happen, but it would be nice. As has been well talked about there is no virtual console on the Switch yet so no playing older games like you can on the WiiU and 3DS. I do not know if Nintendo has said that that will be coming but I would imagine it is when the online services are fully up and running.

We do not know what continued availability of the system will be but it would be devastating to Nintendo if they let the same thing happen with the Switch supply chain as happened with the NES Classic that is still unavailable to most people. If you are not worried about availability and none of the current games interest you then waiting isn't a bad idea unless of course there are supply issues.

I originally wanted to preorder my Nintendo Switch but the preorder system in our area was closed due to low supply. I will get my hands on a Nintendo Switch after the supply has normalized (which will probably take a month or two from now).

Yes, depending on how fast they can crank them out. Unless your wanting to play Zelda, most of the other good games wont be out for a month or so anyway.

Last contact was a chat with a rep. They said they'll ring it up the ladder as the automated system shouldn't have canceled the order. Should've heard back within twenty-four hours; that was Monday...

Man, I definitely feel like I'm missing out right now! Maybe stock will have stabilized by the time I do my tax returns. I've been watching livestreams of people playing BotW, but it can get frustrating to watch them try to figure out a puzzle  :))

In cyberspace, no one can hear you scream, no matter how loud you tell them they are doing it wrong and how to solve it correctly.
