Got a piezo buzzer, supposedly 3-36v.  Motherboard pins of course aren't breadboard pin compatible so had to hold SIP sockets soldered to the buzzer on the pins.  Result?  No beeps.  Stuck it on 5v from a Teensy and I can just about make out a high frequency whine, which won't be audible over the pump let alone a fan...  Liking the resistor idea!

This is exciting..  you're one step closer to buying a new computer.. !!

Although, maybe want to wait till they fix that meltdown thing..

Reseated the cpu - no change.  Flashed the latest beta bios - no change.  Flashed back to stable bios - haven't seen anything on the screen since, GPU or not.

I do have beeps (flashes) now though, two of them.  That's 'parity error' so the RAM is dead?  Take out one stick - no change.  Swap to the other one - no change.  Put both in channel 2 - no change.

Put RAM in another computer, boots up just fine... Now to wait a couple of hours for memtest to confirm the RAM is not damaged, then I can put the RAM from this slow machine into the 'broken' one and see what happens.

What a waste of a day.

I was without this computer for most of last year, had to use an i3 3xxx.  Was really looking forward to having some speed but before I know it it starts acting up again...

Last upgrade was depressing and no way I'm buying broken hardware, I'll just have to find a new hobby.  Or maybe a 16 hour a day job.

It's a jumper and it's back where it should be.

3.5 hours later the RAM has tested fine at nearly it's rated speed so looks like the motherboard, just like last time.

Sad news. Hate to see that happen to an otherwise useable PC :(

It's bad when it's an old trusty friend but I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said I doubt I used this board for 50 hours since I bought it.  This was the second board for the CPU after I blamed the first for not working well, but maybe it was the CPU all along...

I desoldered my Magicforce numpad because I didn't really care for the Gateron Blacks in it and because I was curious to try out Gateron Greens. I think I like the greens even less than the blacks, so it was all for naught, but I don't care enough to desolder again. Maybe they just suck because it has a plastic plate.

At least, I got some practice desoldering and some exposure to desoldering in-switch LEDs (a minor PITA).
Maybe they're waiting for gasmasks and latex to get sexy again.

The world has become a weird place.

New day, new error - 6 'beeps' which means keyboard error.  Needless to say I have a selection of keyboards but it doesn't like any of them!

Message sent to a guy who does replacement bios chips on eBay, the first and last money I'm throwing at the problem.

If you can find a board that's Broadwell compatible out of the box - I struggled in 2016 and no-one's made any since then.  And that's assuming it is the motherboard not a delayed objection to my delidding the CPU...  To replace both you're looking at about 36 hours at my last payrate, I'm not there yet.

Delid, watercool then run at stock clocks?  I guess it will still be slightly quicker than the old i3 :)) Thanks for pointing out an obvious option I'd not considered!

My favourite six keys on a board. Okay five, not including Insert.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

I can definitely agree with that. These mega churches springing up all over the place... Sad that so many are looking for something to believe in - anything apart from their self!...

Now my biggest issue in refuting religion is the lack of knowledge about how life came from non-life. That is something that bothers me

It didn't come from magic, that's for sure.

There is no problem with religion as long as it doesn't poke its nose where it doesn't belong, such as into science or politics.

"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Fohat reads but does not think..

Your links tout, Universal consciousness/connectedness, that would INCLUDE all human politics and human sciences which occur in that universe.

Therefore from the <Human perspective> what does not belong, is the certainty that something may or may not belong,  Rather than any one thing truly belonging , because such a relationship can not be known from bottom up frame analysis.

Certainty may exist in the Universe, but it's not knowable to the humans that attempt to perceive it.

Thanks for the material and perspective.

Yes, at least, I'm pretty sure its not magic xD Accio life! I know its a fallacy to fill a gap with a similarly unsound argument of creation even if it does not fundamentally conflict with certain ideas of creation. I am unfortunately familiar with the Christian perspective of this lack of conflict only.

Your links tout, Universal consciousness/connectedness, that would INCLUDE all human politics and human sciences which occur in that universe.

Therefore from the <Human perspective> what does not belong, is the the certainty that something may or may not belong,  Rather than any one thing truly belonging , because such a relationship can not be known from bottom up frame analysis.

Certainty may exist in the Universe, but it's not knowable to the humans that attempt to perceive it.

What do you think truly belongs, TP?

And I know you know this because you do not have the <<Human Perspective>>

Well, we MAY HAVE certainty, which is the same as uncertainty..  That is all we are ever capable of, when we are ourselves the smaller object perceiving a larger one.

Ty, makes sense.

Sounds a lot like those nihilistic beliefs people have that one can create their own destiny. I can agree with it in an activist or self-improvement sense but not much more

If you don't mind my asking your thoughts on where creation and evolution don't conflict, I am curious... Even if the gist comes in the form of a link  :thumb:

Discharged a little more than four hours ago from a liver biopsy (nothing serious, a confirmation for a study I'm taking part in). Immediately called Logisticare (medicaid transport service) and spend about two hours waiting for a driver who kept telling us "I'll be there in 30 minutes."

Finally got into my ride... at which point he spent another hour picking up other people and dropping them off. Okay, fine, it's not a taxi service, right? Well, despite knowing I'm having surgery, I have to open a heavy ass sliding door myself (he has a switch in the front seat that opens them automatically), and then he hits every curb, pit, pothole and speed bump along the way.

Then we get stuck on the highway, at which point he briefly went off the road.

I finally got home 30 minutes or so ago.

Did I mention every time he turned or corrected he did so with a sudden, sharp jerk? My insides feel like jello now.

What was the liver biopsy for, what are they looking for ?

Confirmation that I have cirrhosis from NASH (nonalcoholic steateohepatitis). I've already been diagnosed with it, but this is to be sure that it's not something genetic instead (I'll be taking part in a study soon for a medication that is thought to decrease fatty cells in the liver as well as cirrhosis).

Dumb Uber and Lyft drivers who don't have enough brain cells to rub together to use just a sliver of common sense. Just because the GPS shows you where to go does not mean it's always correct. This dumb ***** drove past 3 highway exits 2 entire towns north of my destination just to loop around and head all the way south again on surface streets. When I asked why she drove me 10 mins out of the way she said "That's what the GPS told me to do."

You ignorant time-wasting ****. All you had to do was think about it for 1 second and say, "Wait, maybe I should take ANY of these other exits first."

tldr: stupid people putting all their trust into technology without using a shred of common sense.

Damn Uber and Lyft passengers who don't have enough brain cells to rub together to use just a sliver of common sense. Just because you know every square inch of the place you are going does not mean your driver does. As a driver, I follow my GPS because sometimes I have no idea where your destination is. The GPS often takes you the fastest or shortest route, so maybe you could save 1-2 minutes going another way but typically there's little savings anyways. If you require your driver to know every possible route without GPS, hail a taxi.

I hope the studies you are taking part in will be helpful to you or ease some of the issues you deal with. That driver (as well as so many others on the road) was really inconsiderate. I hope there's a system where you can leave some type of review about it.

I mean, coulda had a word, y'know? Like, "Hey, you missed the quickest exit back there, you should take this one and let the GPS re-adjust the route.

Well with the 5775c, you don't need z97..

anything'll do at this point..

Delid is kewl..   "Effort"

Delid, watercool then run at stock clocks?  I guess it will still be slightly quicker than the old i3 :)) Thanks for pointing out an obvious option I'd not considered!
I switched to AMD after my 4790k and it's overheating issues because of the TIM... I refuse to use another intel processor until they start soldering the lid on again. Garbage. They are a ticking time bomb with TIM, once it drys and stops conducting heat well. With that processor, I also used 3 different motherboards because they all kept malfunctioning, mostly on the data bus, where sata ports would start dying, along with USB ports. Time will tell if I suffer similar problems on Ryzen, but so far, I have had none of the issues that plagued my haswell systems(though initially there were a few issues that were fixed in bios updates).

^ I never used two boards with a CPU until they added the weedy 'pins' in the socket rather than proper straight ones on the CPU, coincidence?  Not sure, but my next build will be AMD once they've fixed the bugs and then if I bother.

I'm bothered by the all too familiar emptiness - not quite suicidal nihilism as I still put the feelings of others first so have no choice but to got on, but as I don't know what I want I don't have the distracted amusement that passes for pleasure in the present while chasing, nor the satisfaction of achieving to look forward to.  All there is is meaningless existence spotted with emotional requests for support which I cannot respond to in an appropriate way, which makes me feel subhuman.
