NE gekhaXpurts on Dehumidifiers here?
« on: Mon, 17 July 2023, 23:46:38 »
What do you guys use for basements?

Climate change has made the wetness overwhelming. The Old unit tp4 owns is not getting down to proper humidity.

Ran a full cycle test end to end, Based on empirical data, Existing unit produces only ~1.176 Liters per Kilowatt, @ 73 Fahrenheit, 70% humidity,

This old unit seems WAY worse than the latest Energy Star documentation which says a "modern good" dehumidifier, should produce ~1.9 Liters/Kwh  @ 65 F, 60% humidity.

So, it seems, on top of bad efficiency, the Current unit also hasn't aged well, maybe the refrigerant is low.  Because it's WAYYYY low output

Just got the new unit.

Runs ~400 watts on max mode.  Supposed to be able to pull 35 pints a day (4.375 gal) at 65 F, 60% humidity.  Rated for 1.9 Liters per Kilowatt.

Meter is set, Testing underway.

Build quality is good.  Lots of heatsink area.   Acceptably loud, You can sit 10 feet from it without much bother.

The compressor noise isnt' bad at all.  It's very quiet for what it is. Not physically ugly.

After testing, Will probably build an air guide shroud for it, so one can place it a bit further away, Stock, it blows air upwards, this is not ideal as it has high re-uptake..

Experimental result Day 1

1.866 Liters/ Kilowatt @ 75 F, 65-51% humidity.   Spec fulfilled. Midea-NO-is-Liar.

This unit is TWICE the efficiency of the old one.

This unit will pay for itself in a single season vs the old unit.

Took 22.7 Hours to fill its bucket ~15.714 Liters poured out measured.

Will rerun a few times to double check.

Numbers confirmed.

Efficiency checks out.  It works so much faster too, 1/3 of the time needed as the old unit.

Small update,  the bucket being directly below the whole-unit is much easier to remove than the slot in style trays. Those trays can get stuck if you pull at an angle, and splash water around the unit.

The vertical bucket style, you just lift off the whole top unit, no friction.

The downside is if it's too heavy for someone to lift. Both the unit itself and the water filled bucket is pretty heavy.
