Favorite Game from 2006?
« on: Sat, 09 July 2016, 17:51:56 »
What is your favorite game from 2006 and why? You can list up too two games.

Mine is hitman blood money because of how open it was and how many skins there were to play around with.

Okami hands down, the HD remake on the PS3 still holds up and is fun. The game play does feel a little repetitive and dated now though.  I had a lot of fun with Dead Rising too.

2006 wasn't my favorite vintage for gaming. 1995 and 1998 are tops on my list. Mmmm good years there.

Oblivion.

If I HAD to list another game? Medieval: Total War II

I genuinely don't know if there is a game as good as Oblivion released in that year. Probably one of the best games I have ever played ever.

Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Both of these came out a bit before 2006, but I was still passing them. Hell, I'm still playing them now!

Oblivion easily.

Second would be Half Life 2: Episode 1.

F.E.A.R was also pretty awesome.

I liked Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas, but I think my favorite was M.U.G.E.N. (I may have played M.U.G.E.N. in 2007--I'm not 100% sure)

Oblivion, did other games even come out in 2006? If they did then I certainly didn't notice them.

KBP V60 mini (Cherry blue). K70 RGB (Cherry brown). BTC 5339 (foil and foam).

Oblivion and Scarface.  I think Scarface was only played until I got the shaders mod to work with my older video card.

Titan Quest and Saints Row come to mind, but in 2006 I was balls deep in WoW.

I would like to give an honorable mention to Wii Sports.
Duck Blackbird - Gaterstotles /// O'Mira - V Blacks /// LZ GH v2 - V Clears /// Leopold FC980C /// TGR Jane CE v2 (unbuilt) /// Lin Dolphin 2021 (unbuilt)

Titan Quest and Saints

I would like to point you in the direction of this Testo Max review because it works.

Battlefield 2142 or Rainbow 6 Vegas.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2006.

Nah, not really.

I had to look up the wiki cos I figured I wasn't playing anything new at that point but I can definitely pinpoint two of my all time favourites.

Number 1 is Outrun 2006: Coast to Coast. Certainly one of the best looking games on the PS2. I don't know how in hell Sumo Digital made it run like that. The framerate was a bit shakey in places but by god did it look good. The gameplay was impeccable as well. I never got a home port of Scud Racer/Sega GT but between this game and Daytona USA 2001 on the Dreamcast I got the next best thing powerslide uncontrollability wise.

My other favourite game of the era was Mashed. I might have had the expanded edition that came out a year later but it was multiplayer bliss. My flatmates and I spent the college year of 07/08 rinsing SSF2T and Mashed every single day. It was a top down racer in the vein of Micro Machines 1/2/X3. It had that perfectly balanced battle racer gameplay. The weapons were effective but hard enough to execute correctly so that picking your racing line and memorising the courses was still paramount. Everybody knows Mario Kart 64 is a brilliant party game but the likes of Mashed and maybe Rally Cross on the PSOne (and it's spectacularly fun car physics) don't get enough love.

Armadillo Run. Since I'm looking at metacritic's 2006 rankings to refresh my memory and I haven't played almost all those games, except:

Gear of War (for like 10 minutes at a friend's house),  Bully (nah), and the 2k/NCAA/Madden trio. At least of the 893 games in the database.
