So I just tried a Twinkie
« on: Tue, 23 May 2017, 10:47:33 »
So I found these in our uni shop, presumably an import product. As a reasonably famous, ultra-American product (yet fairly unavailable outside the States), I was curious to try them out (a bit like Australian Tim Tams, which are super awesome, by the way).

I found they weren't bad, but they were a bit gooey, and surprisingly bland. I had expected them to taste a lot sweeter.

Other people's thoughts on these?

They were better before Hostess went bankrupt and got bought.

......Like with most things......they were a lot better 10 years ago.

Well what you want to do.. is   to inject into the twinkie more whip cream until it overflows and cover the entire surface area of the twinkie..

Then you want to sprinkle powder brown sugar ontop of that..

The proper way to prepare these is to deep fry it and sprinkle powdered sugar on top.

Yeah so feel free to suggest more American things I need to check out, apparently they have several US imports in that shop (it's a very multicultural shop).

Tasty Kake is legit, more of an East Coast brand along with Drake's. I see Hostess and Little Debbie nationally though.

Speaking of which - if you haven't tried the Snowball and the Hostess Cupcake ice cream yet, you should. They make a Twinkie one too but haven't tried it.

they've always been dry.

You need to get tastykakes but those are only available in the Philadelphia area.

I could send you some if you want :D

You can get tastykakes almost everywhere these days.

I'm in California and basically every grocery store has them, even some Targets.

Definitely better than twinkies.

The candy? They're really not anything special, just a semi-chewy fruit flavored pills. Something you would buy in a movie theater.
