« on: Sun, 29 March 2015, 12:49:45 »
I made some pulled pork for dinner

So good.. and so easy.  Pork loin roast coated with spices, seared, cooked on 325 in 1.5C OJ and 1.5C water for 3 hours.

If you did that to my aunt's cookware,  she'd kill you...

I love my enameled cast iron cookware.

do you have one of those $400 ones?

I could never justify getting one.. so I use the ghetto Knockoff, $70 with $30 off coupon.. $40

I think mine was ~$50, lodge brand, then when it chipped they sent a free replacement.

I've looked at the $400 pots,  the only difference I can tell is that the expensive one has a much smoother/even  enameling..  I'd assume this makes it more durable, but certainly not 10x more durable..

That was my reasoning..  If anyone has any other incites, please post..

Yeah, I have a Lodge dutch oven and a skillet, skillet is sized to use the lid that comes with the dutch oven too!  Amazon Warehouse deals ftw.  The box did have a scrape on it tho :(

Even if they get burnt, you can use hydrogen peroxide and some water, and it comes right off.

Those $400 Le Creuset pots will last for generations. You should keep an eye out for any good finds if you go to thrift stores/yard sales/ebay trolling regularly

Not sure on used pots and pans...

Who knows what's been done to them....   Some one could've done heroin out of it..

Is it a good trade to risk the cooties on "cookware"..  something you "eat" out of. LOL

There is a Le Creuset outlet store just outside Saint Louis in the 'rich' area.. still looking at $150-$300.  Worth it if you have the money, imo.

It's all durability. Those Le Creusets' enameling will last much longer before cracking and chipping. And once those ****s start chipping they get chucked, you don't want that **** in your food. Le Creuset's have a lifetime warranty (as do Lodge, probably a few other brands), not to mention thicker more high quality enamel. Also thicker cast iron, better quality lids, etc.

Cookware really is one of those things that (as long as you're not paying for a chef's name) does get better as the price goes up.

Can vouch for Le Crueset, we have a few items, including some baking trays, teapot and cookware, not cheap, but as others have said, treat it well and it will last a long time. Look around online, you can find it with big discounts too.

And even if you are a dip****, they have a life time warranty, so as long as you don't hit the thing with a sledge hammer, you should be fine in the warranty department
