DUSK
Wow. Not only a fantastic retro shooter, but just an incredible fps all around. The music is just stunning, done by the man himself Andrew Hulshult. The art direction is perfect, creating this mysterious and foreboding world while never once slowing down or dev-splaining plot. The level design... I cannot say enough good things about the level design. It retains that old school Quake feel while bringing forward modern level design elements you'd never thing would work so well, and the way they introduce gradually more complicated ideas. It's just brilliant. Well balanced weapons too. I actually find myself switching on-the-fly for specific situations like DOOM Eternal but in Dusk it's much more organic. Each weapon feels closer in power while still offering different systems of delivering said lead.
I'm also aware Stephan Weyte is in the game later so I'm greatly looking forward to that.
If you've ever played Quake and liked it you'll like this. It's dare I say far better than Quake, building on the bones of it's ancestor to make a modern-retro shooter that in my opinion is unparalleled. I haven't played EVERY modern-retro shooter (yet,) but this is the best one I've ever played.
If there's one thing I can complain about it's the door puzzles. Totally unneeded and arbitrary since they are just guessing games, the game gives you no hints so you just stand there like an idiot trying every combination until you guess it correctly. Super lame. Thankfully there's not many of 'em.
