Close enough as in a 75% accurate spelling?  If I get 75% in a test I consider that poor, and that's a proper test not a spelling test for common short words!

Meaning wise they're completely different - than is used for comparisons and then for the next item in a sequence, anyone writing a curriculum where these are interchangeable should be dismissed for gross misconduct.  No idea whether it's taught or English/American kids are just stupid as I don't recall one ESL user making this mistake. (And yes dyslexic people get a pass - it's only in an otherwise perfect paragraph it irks)

So as we move forward.

Every person has to learn more and more things.

Language is flowing, in that it supports the pragmatist.

Rules are created and destroyed and resurrected..

For non-critical distinctions i think merge is fine...

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I'm not understanding the analogy of the foto..

Is the windows rebooting as part of its own installation ?

Or has it interrupted some other installation.. and you wanted that to happen, because you didn't really want that update, to which now you will have an opportunity to block ..

And the imagery of the girl and the horse..  Is the Horse windows ?  is the Girl the Reboot ?  Is the sand the windows-update ?

What does it all mean ?

- An installation of an application was happening;
- Windows updates and restarts in the middle of said installation;
- (though in Windows's defense, it happened between modules. Still though ...);
- The image is from the original Planet of the Apes, though you don't need to get the pop-culture reference or any symbolism/metaphor to see the anguish deep deep in Charlton's soul.

An OS should not restart itself without the user choosing to. Period.

That's one reason why I despise MS Windows and Microsoft.

You can fix that with a reg hack or local GPO

I have many complaints about Windows, but it restarting is hardly a consideration compared to some of the others.

Story of my frigging life.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

On one of mine exactly that, the stabilizers holes in the plate are too small.

Spotted a dodgily cheap GPU on eBay so bought it instantly, now the listing has been deleted... How long will I have to wait for it to be cancelled before I start looking for other options?

Edit: Answer:  5 minutes!  Supposedly a hacked account :(

EBay say file 'item not received' click here, then proceed to say I can't yet as it's not late...

Yea lots of counterfeit GPUs on ebay now.

They're flashing old GPUs with hack-firmwares to appear as different gpu..

It's silly because it's so obvious, only very inexperienced grandmothers would fall for it..

Oh yay, something else to look out for!  Haven't bought a decent GPU since 2004 when dual slot coolers were new and fancy rather than the norm even on entry level cards.  Not sure that makes me a grandmother but even with the heatsinks removed I'm not going to know one chip from another...

Unrelated but I've just visited two post offices which are at the back of shops and both were closed for Easter despite the shops being open.  Would have been nice if Royal Mail had put something on their website!

I recommend not buying GPUs from an auction site at all, unless you want to chance being burned. I've only purchased GPUs a couple of times from eBay and that was back when they weren't that expensive. I bought two Radeon R9 290s and received a 290 and 280. I got a refund for the 280 and decided to just keep the one 290. It got extremely hot and somehow convinced XFX to let me RMA it, and they replaced it with one of their Double Dissipation cooled 290s instead of reference. A few months later I purchased another 290 DD but ended up returning it because it wasn't working correctly. So I then tried a watercooling build, messed it up, sold the 290 with the watercooler attached, and just bought a new 980 Ti instead of going through all the trouble.

Sorry to hear that, I'm looking near the bottom (RX560 probably) where hopefully margins will make it not worth the hassle.  Will probably be watercooling it so not worried about warranty either...

Guess I should look at more shops, though there doesn't seem to be many cards in stock anywhere and they don't use Royal Mail who try neighbours (I have many who will take things in, but none are home regularly to nominate) then take things just 5 minutes away if no-one's available.  I don't even want to be spending money on a GPU!

If you're in the market for gpu,  either wait 1.5 years,  OR buy some oldie, like amd 7x series . and Nvidia 670gtx and above

Hmm... 7x being 7xxx or r7 2xx?  I need a GPU so I can advance beyond absolute beginner on Rocksmith (I'm better than the iGPU built in to the the i3 3xxx can handle at 1280x800 but that's not saying much :))) which the Broadwell would have been more than enough to do but that's not an option anymore.   Older cards are not proportionately cheaper from what I've seen but I probably need to research where new budget models compare to old high end ones.

Maybe try to get something like a 7870?

Just had a look, a 7870 takes my PSU requirement over the 400W I have (it's designed to be running the iGPU which uses practically nothing!)

An RX560 is a worse card and costs more, but it fits the PSU :(

Well, the easier way is to say,  do not get any gpu less than 4000 points on Passmark gpu benchmark..

anything less than 4000 is frustratingly slow.

You don't have to worry about psu requirement unless you're going to run games that have both high simultaneous GPU and CPU requirements..

As long as the psu is a conservatively rated 400watt,  it should handle 450-500 watt peak loads for a small duration without problems

Which PSU do you have exactly? If it's on a good platform (Superflower/EVGA, Seasonic, et al.) then your 400W should handle it without issue, but if it's a no-name brand like Bestec then you should probably just get a new PSU to go with your GPU.

True, if it can run on an old i3 I don't think it will stress a newer i7.  The RX560 scores 4500 in Passmark and currently tops the GPU value chart so it's looking like a good choice.

It's a fanless Seasonic 80+ platinum with maybe 100 hours use - it's never worth skimping on the power or random bad things happen.  Much like if you overload a decent PSU, I imagine...  Had enough of that lately.

Looking at nvidia cards now, they're cheaper but anti OSS.  Must resist...

I'm an independent developer, so I work from home. I have also always tended to enjoy solitude.
Add these together, and now I rarely actually get to socialize with others physically, which I am relieved about most of the time, but if I ever get in the mood, I don't have any options available. So yeah, that's bothering me.

After a day in the office around work people, the will to be around more people in the evenings, despite the different group and situation, is lacking. Result: exclusively hanging around work people.

Lol. Man, I remember when I first got internet.

36 hours later I was dazed with 146 windows open(before tabs were a thing), so far into the rabbit hole I didn't know which way was up.

The social-aspect to the human experience is critical for young people. It's designed so they quickly enter a procreative contract, from which humanity endures..

As a person enters middle age,  the window either tighten or closes..  Solo adventure is now a viable option..
